Why does ebay hold funds? The item was delivered and tracking was confirmed. What's up with that?

·Sep 14, 2026 at 7:19 PMIt is to protect both buyers and sellers. Whether a new seller or a casual seller returning after about 90 days or so away from selling.
We use to have a BIG problem with PayPal was our money processor. Sellers coming here, selling a bunch of stuff, getting paid by the buyer, then when the seller felt they it was time to get out, they ran with the money and never shipped product. Now in a crazy world with all the fake tracking numbers it is even easier for sellers to get away with this a bit longer. This is just one reason, I'm confident there are others.
But it is a short period of time. I know it can be problematic for some. But once you get past about 10 current transactions that go well, they won't likely hold funds anymore. Then for the future, just make sure that you come back and sell a few things every couple of months.
Good Luck!

OPSep 14, 2026 at 7:35 PMYes - I haven't sold in a while. But I have been an active buyer continually since 2003. It just surprised me. Thank you for the update!

·Sep 14, 2026 at 8:04 PMBuying requirements are VERY different than selling requirements as is the job. Ebay has very few, if any, rules that apply because of a member "length of time" on the site. The rules are for one and all.

iPhones and electronics are among the highest fraud items to sell on ebay.
Couple that with a new seller and a 30-day MBG, ebay wants to make sure that the money will be there if the buyer has a problem with the item.
