Offers Embedded Into Messages Not Creating Notifications or Unread Bubbles For Existing Message Threads
Summary: sonomaresale expressed concerns about the new messaging system for offers as a seller. They highlighted issues such as the lack of notifications or unread indicators in existing message threads when an offer is sent or accepted. This leads to missed opportunities as both sellers and buyers might not be aware of offer actions. They also noted that offer bubbles do not indicate the quantity for multi-quantity listings, which can cause confusion.
As a seller I was very happy to see a change to offers that paired well with the updated messages over a year ago. I can remember countless times in the old system that buyers would want a discount, could not navigate getting a separate notification/message thread for the offer message, and lost interest in purchasing it because of the extra barrier.
The problem with the new message bubbles is that it was not complete enough of a change: offers don't create notifications, or unread indicators in existing message threads. I can understand not wanting an offer with no previous message history to create a new message thread, that would create a ton of message clutter; however that setting seems to be applied to existing message threads so plenty of buyers don't realize that they got an offer sent to them. As a seller I also don't notice just through the messages whether a buyer has accepted an offer I sent. In fact the messaging system doesn't really indicate in the side bar that an offer was sent and accepted: in this screenshot you can see the first like twenty characters of the buyer's first message but in my opinion it should say "[buyer username] has accepted your offer" or something to that effect.
Another complaint is that the little offer bubbles don't indicate the quantity of the offer. It's fine for single quantity listings but on multiquantity ones they should say whether it's an offer for one or more right in the bubble.
