Newly Listed category not showing timestamps on the listings.
Summary: mrdeece expressed frustration about eBay's lack of minute-by-minute timestamps on newly listed items, which now show only generalized times like "listed 7 hours ago," affecting their ability to efficiently browse as a buyer. shire123 reported no issues on their end, suggesting a potential change by eBay. eburtonlab recommended checking browser settings, while emeralitelamps and dockaboat1 shared similar frustrations, emphasizing the difficulty of tracking viewed items. Participants speculated that eBay might be testing new features to cut costs, with further frustrations about the platform's responsiveness to user concerns.
WRT eBay as a buyer, It started again last night. While front running the Newly Listed Items everything was fine. As I went to the next page the time stamps were missing from the listings and have been missing all day. What I do see is in green writing is an hourly indication i e "Listed 7 Hours Ago. Is this the end of time stamps for eBay? Is it too much for them to attach a to the minute time each item is listed? Help. I cannot work within a full hour category designation

·1 week agoThat is so curious to me. When I do my searches this AM (29 September) the time/date stamp is there on all items.
Why is it happening to only some people?
mrdeece
OP1 week agoI am hoping it is random but it does appear it only applies to users that apply the feature specifically to their search method.
shire123
·1 week ago@mrdeece The only feature I applied to the search is to sort via "newly listed". Other than that all I do is put my search terms in and the hit search
Also note that I don't have any "saved" searches. Does that make a difference?
mrdeece
OP1 week agoI have maybe thirty to forty individually saved searches. I use some more than others and do many searches I don't save. My saved seller list is maxed out.

OP1 week agoeBay is a top down authoritarian bot for sure. For all I know they may be working a side hustle with some outfit looking to see what the effects of this major shift in a users methodology would amount to in terms of a workaround or backlash. I am at the workaround stage for now.
shire123
·1 week ago@mrdeece Possible. But I doubt it's some side hustle with some outfit. I think all of ebay's "changes" are to search out ways to increase income or decrease costs. Plain and simple. If it doesn't upset too many people and it improves the bottom line it gets done.
I also seriously doubt that being vocal on these boards moves the needle one bit. Only the bottom line matters.
mrdeece
OP1 week agoBottom line rules for sure.

OP1 week agoWell it is day break on the 29th and I am still without time stamps on the listings, just listed X hours ago which is good for nothing as it is a moving target. Anybody notice any changes in their accounts. This first happened to me for about 4 or 5 days early in the month of September. It is extremely frustrating.
shire123
·1 week agoAs of 0200 on 26 September I am seeing the time/date stamps on all searches that I have tested. This go around I have not seen that green "listed x hours ago" notation at any time.
I really wonder why some people are having a problem and I am not?
While I understand why this upsets some people, it will have no effect on my ebay buying.

·1 week agoI'm having the same issue that emeralitelamps pointed out. As a shopper, I want to know if an item was listed a day or a month or a year ago. The date and time stamps are very helpful. Is there a way to e-mail or contact eBay directly about such features?
mrdeece
OP1 week agoebay is a top down mega authoritarian bot. Any human you may get ahold of will be useless for this level of questioning. I have been on this platform since 2000 and the changes, and growth, have been incomprehensible.

·1 week ago · EditedOnce again, eBay is not showing the date and time for new listings, or even old ones. For those of us who search dozens of categories by "newly listed" and write down the time of the newest item we see in a category, then not showing the date and time of each new listings makes it extremely difficult. Only by having the date/time, can we tell what was the last item we viewed during our prior search. Now, with vague descriptions like, "1 hour ago" or "2 days ago", etc., it is impossible to tell which was the very last item reviewed during the prior search. One of my categories has 310,000 hits. When I search new items, it is impossible to know when I left off, so I have to approximate and then either I'm looking at the same items for second time, or I didn't go back far enough to see all the new items. This category, for example, could have a couple of hundred items list in the last hour, or "8 hours ago." This is now the third time this has happened over the past month or two. No one at eBay advises if it is a test for a new permanent approach, or if it is glitch in the system that needs to be fixed or whatever the reason is. Ebay needs to advise users what the heck is happening and whether this is a temporary situation or a permanent change. If permanent, then it's absolutely insane, adds absolutely no value, makes searching for we power searches nearly impossible to do correctly and will likely cost ebay sales. Doesn't anyone at ebay actually use the system the way most users do? eBay....if this is a bug, then fix it right away, and if it is a design change, then the person who thought this was a good idea needs to be fired! By the way, this problem exists on all my browsers and my cache and cookies are cleared every day.

OP1 week agoThey had better fix it or I am done here buying.

OP1 week agoAnything to save a few bucks I am sure. Server space is expensive. Thanks

·1 week agoTry another browser to rule out a browser or cache issue.
If the times are displayed in another browser, try clearing the cache in the original browser, or possibly manually deleting just your eBay cookies. Or temporarily disable your ad blocker to rule out a problem with that.
mrdeece
OP1 week agoThanks, I will give that a try. I thought it might have been an eBay problem reading others on this post but it could just be my mess of a computer.
eburtonlab
·1 week agoIt is possible that eBay has changed something, and your cache or cookies are in conflict with what eBay is now delivering, preventing your browser from displaying something properly. Normally the cache or cookies should be overwritten with new information when that happens, but the process does not always work as smoothly as it should.
mrdeece
OP1 week agoI have worked with AI and tried to fix this on three different browsers. Chrome actually showed the time stamps with the listings for about 5 minutes then dropped it for the green X minutes or hours. Not good.
mrdeece
OP1 week agoMy feeling is that because of my search and purchasing behavior I have been targeted, maybe that is or is not true for the rest of you having trouble but it seems that if you have found a system that puts you at some sort of advantage over the average buyer you are being banished.
shire123
·1 week agoEverything looks OK on my end. I searched for a certain book series title and time and date stamps were all there at least through page 5 which was over a week ago.
Maybe some categories have been changed.
Since this happened in the past this further reinforces to me that ebay is going to change how they show that information. It was exactly that way a while ago with the green listed x hours ago.
mrdeece
OP1 week agoI do not know why, except money, they would drop the times. I mean they have all the information as part of their business model. To not display it can only be a money issue.

OP1 week agoWithout this feature I am out as a buyer. Selling only going forward. I will buy elsewhere.
