Missing data & errors in new Buy Shipping Label form
The newest attempt at revising the Buy Shipping Label page has yielded confused data, missing data, and a grammatical blunder in its wake.
It seems to have originated as a well-meaning attempt to draw more attention to orders where the Quantity is higher than 1. In the past, the Quantity value was a bit buried further down the page (e.g. "Qty: 2") where the seller might not look (although a value higher than 1 would also be flagged with a circular red bullet showing the number higher up on the page).
In this latest revision, the number has been brought up to the top of the page, next to the listing photo, but is now showing the number of purchases rather than the Quantity of the purchase(s):
This example was actually for a purchase of 2 vintage bike reflector sets, not just 1. (The price reflects 2 sets; $49.95 each.) Nowhere on this page is the Quantity of 2 sets shown.
In addition, the listing title is also now completely missing, appearing nowhere on the page. I sell numerous similar parts, and without the title on the page, the chances of an error are higher.
Finally, clicking on the "1 item" link seen above yields this grammatical blunder, a really basic coding error when placing a number into a sentence:
"1 orders"? Anyone familiar with the English language should have spotted this and fixed it after the first round of testing. At least the listing title and (more importantly) the Quantity finally appear.
That information should be on the main page, not relying on the user to open a popup each time to figure out exactly what he's shipping, and how many. It is stated on the main Orders page in the Seller Hub; there is no reason for it to be dropped from the individual shipping label form.
So to recap:
- Restore the missing listing title to the Buy Shipping Label form. (https://www.ebay.com/ship/single/[Order_Number_Here])
- Restore the missing Item Quantity to the Buy Shipping Label form. (i.e. Not the number of Items, but the Quantity of Items)
- Restore the red highlighting when the Quantity is higher than 1.
- Correct the popup's blundering grammar to be "1 order" when it's a single purchase.
4a: Highlight the Quantity shown; don't reduce it to small print in 50% gray. Currently that's the only place where anyone can find it.
...and as a general request for the future: Test this stuff first! Use peer review and alpha/beta testing to catch errors and omissions, especially really dumb ones, before they make it into Production. Stop dumping it into Production and waiting around for someone to report problems!

OP4 months agoHello, @kyle@ebay , we're coming up on two weeks now since reports of these problems started circulating, and they are only increasing. Can you please ping the relevant people to find out where things are at regarding fixes? I asked previously what the ALERT number for this case would be, but have not yet seen an answer. Apologies if it was posted to one of the other threads about this problem.
Also, once you get someone's attention, can you please ask them what the original purpose of the revisions was supposed to be? From the changes that have been made, it's not clear at all. Thanks!

Hey @a_c_green I was actually just bringing this back up again with them this morning! I'm still working to get an alert or fix or info I can share.

·4 months agoAlso need to look into sold emails sent, I combine shipping, I get a couple emails of the SAME item sold even though the buyer bought different items. I freaked out the 1st ones I got, thought I had sold duplicate items

Yes
We need
SKU
Variation
Item Title (clickable to the listing)
Quantity
Right on the Buy Shipping Label page.

·4 months agoWhy would all that need to be on the shipping label page?
When you buy your shipping label, you should already have the package ready and know what you're shipping.

I missed your question.
It truly depends on what you sell.
I sell a fair number of repeatable items.
I print labels as the sell and pick and pack later.
I need the SKU to know what I sold and what the weight is (variations don't all weigh the same) Plus I have notes about how to best pack 2 or 3 same item.
Even if you pick and pack ahead of time, don't you want to see what you are selling as you print the label? The photo isn't enough for similar items or variations or and item you sell in different quantites.
Plus I now need to type something in the custom label message area since they took away the ability to edit the SKU option. I need to see my SKU to be able to put that in the custom label message area.
I see no benefit for removing that data, it may not be needed for all, but it is needed for many.

·4 months agoI guess I've never noticed that information being there or not.
I pack one item and print the shipping label, so I guess I've never needed that information on the shipping label page.
I've never used the SKU section, I put any extra information I'll need in the notes section and it works good for me.
