Item Specfics
Help!!!!!
For the entire month of November, the item specifications have yet to be working. We have complained to eBay. They said it's site wide issue. We have about 17,000 item specifics, and they are hurting sales because we cannot add to item specifics. We tried manually adding the item specifics but they don't go away. We even download the excel CSV file and with no lucky when we loaded it back up. Has anyone found a work around?
I've been with eBay for 22 years, and this is the longest we've had to wait for eBay to fix. Five weeks so far, and still no fix. This is a busy time, and without these item specifics, it's hurting sales.
I am all ears if anyone have found away around this. Everyday we wait for this fix it's costing both my company and eBay lost revenue

·1 year agoSo, I create a listing for an interior window crank handle and enter all of the suggested item specifics for a listing.
I submit the listing and all is good.
I get to work the next morning and see where eBay RECOMMENDS I update 2 item specifics for that one listing. (color, location)
Because during the night, somebody filtered Blue and Left trying to narrow down their search for an interior arm rest.
I then attempt to DO AS SUGGESTED, yet cannot (due to some glitch).
And over time, with lots of listings, that "two" grows to 17,000ish.
And you think this is hurting your sales.
I used to think the same. And somewhere in my head, I probably still do.
But the $$time spent touching up the same listings over and over and over and over and over again? Listings that should be DONE already.
It's just not worth it to me.
We did that every day for 6 months and saw no difference in sales.
So now, we enter the make, and part number boxes, and nothing else.
If that's affecting my sales, It's not enough to offset the money spent re-doing already finished listings every day.
Especially since the search / sort / filter functions are so jacked up anyway.

·1 year agoThanks for checking @devon@ebay .
My suggestion @necycleshop , if it's possible with your business flow, is to include some of those IS when you first create the listing. If I was looking for a replacement part for a vehicle, I would definitely be filtering by color and location for quicker access to the part I need.
When I create listings I tend to fill out anything essential, thinking like a buyer and how they shop, so the only recommendations I get after the fact from eBay are to fill in fields that may not apply to my items. For example, a lot of my items don't have MPN which means I could have an entire category of listings that eBay suggests updating IS. I ignore those recommendations because I know I've already filled in the essential info and the rest is data that doesn't apply.
In the end, you only have to fill out what's under "required" but it's also a good idea to fill out as much of the "recommended" section as you can.
Hopefully eBay gets to that ticket and is able to resolve the problem for you.

OP1 year agoWe usually do add Item specifics. But then again, eBay has more IS, and we typically add those.
As I said, it's just frustrating that eBay has been playing a game with it since 10/16 and not fixing it. Then, it also tells me it's a site issue when it is not. Bottom line, I want them to fix that all. This way, I can add more SKU's
I have been played all this time, and it's lost time, and they never fix anything.

·1 year agoI feel your frustration. Good luck with it - hopefully eBay will fix the problem.

OP1 year agoI have a lot sku 117,000, and most 3rd party businesses don't like to handle that many SKUs

OP1 year agoI just got off the phone with eBay, and it's a site-wide issue. I was asking if someone knew a workaround to get this to work. You don't have an issue. Thanks for trying

·1 year agoUse third party listing software. Third party tools push changes to eBay through an API so that process may yield different results than updating directly on eBay.
Most of them have a free one week trial. Try it and see if that works. You have nothing to lose except a bit of time and if it works, that'll be a big win.

·1 year agoYour listings are showing item specifics (although not very complete like a Toyota Flywheel not stating 'what type transmission' so is that what is missing?)

OP1 year agoWhen you open one of them, it shows what is recommended. You put the information, and eBay usually would accept it, or you can usually download a CSV file, and it highlights the ones that they want. We do so and upload the file. Whether you were doing a single or CSV, it would reduce the number 15942 above. But it doesn't. You can fill in the information eBay wants, and it remains. We know that eBay is having an issue site-wide, and they admitted it.
My question is, has anyone found a workaround for this issue? When you enter 15942, it slows down sales because eBay wants you to have this number gone. They have been working on this problem for five weeks, and there is still no fix, and it's terrible.
The problem is not the information being put in the specifics. The problem is having eBay accept that number of 15942 and have it go all the way back to zero.

·1 year agoHey @necycleshop . You said your listings are updating with the IS you uploaded, correct? The only issue is the number on your Seller Hub Overview page? If so, that's nothing more than a display error. It does not impact your sales in any way.
Have you checked a different browser? Did a manual deletion of your eBay cookies/cache?

OP1 year agoIf the CSV file were working, I would not be here. You cannot manually do it one by one or upload CSV because it doesn't work. I was asking if anyone else had work around and apparently not

·1 year agoOK, I misinterpreted this statement, "You can fill in the information eBay wants, and it remains."
I thought you were saying the info you filled in remains - but it seems what you meant was the info does not save and instead the number suggested to update remains?
To be clear, can you confirm if the below information is accurate?
1. When you go to an individual listing and manually update item specifics, then save/publish changes, the newly entered item specifics do not appear on the listing?
2. When you use the CSV upload, the data does not actually upload? Is there an error message? Sorry, not clear what's happening here.

OP1 year agoAnswer your questions.
1) no, they don't
2) They uploaded it, and it didn't give any errors.

·1 year agoHi @devon@ebay . OP is saying when they manually enter item specifics, then save their listing, those newly added IS are not appearing on the listing. They're saying the same problem occurs when they use a CSV upload.
CS told them this is a sitewide issue. Can you check on your end to see if there's a confirmed sitewide tech ticket on this?
I haven't seen other reports and I'm wondering if we should continue to dive deeper to try and help, or if that's pointless if there really is a sitewide issue. Thanks in advance!
