Inappropriate suggestions when looking at E-Bay listings!
I was at work on lunch looking at vintage He-Man figures, and E-Bay was basically showing me pornography in the recommendations they post in listings. Fully nude spread eagle women.
Hey E-Bay, if I can't show these listings here, you shouldn't be sticking them in items like TOYS that might pop up in a public place when you browse E-Bay. And it wasn't just one image, there were several, some even worse!
Just maybe some categories on E-Bay need to be BLOCKED from showing up as sponsored recommendations!
If I can't show the listing here, then E-bay has no business sticking it in any item as an ad!
This started after I searched for Vintage 80's Photos. Now any listing I look at has sponsored ads ranging from nude topless pinups to spread eagle, fully nude women!
E-bay is now unusable in public! It's fine if E-Bay wants to let people sell this. I don't care. I'll sell Playboys and stuff too. But it shouldn't be inserted into other people's listings as sponsored ads! And E-Bay really needs to crack down on accounts posting listings showing actual nudity in the main photo.

·11 months agoDid you click on any 'nudes' at any point? I searched "Vintage 80's photos" and could not replicate the issue. Not saying it couldn't happen.

The recommendations shown are highly dependent on the exact search terms used, but the link between the keywords and the recommendations themselves can be extremely indirect.
I have seen recommendations based entirely on a keyword that appeared in one of my saved searches as an exclusion term, for instance. Other recommendations appear because users searching with similar search terms also searched for the recommended items or selected those items from a similar search.
In one case, a search for a car part by part number returned pages of pinups because the seller used a similar numbering system even though none of the results actually matched the part number searched.
One possible way to deal with such recommendations is to avoid using eBay's main page where such things are shown. Recommendations that appear as rows of sponsored items within other item listings can be blocked by using an ad blocker that allows custom rules; most ad blockers allow various page elements to be blocked by a user with a point and click interface. Ads are not the only things that can be blocked, though care must be taken when creating custom rules so that the rule does not block other things that the user actually wants to see.

·11 months agoI won't even browse Ebay when my young grandkids are around, you never know what's going to pop up.
Did a search a couple weeks ago that had nothing to do with photos or women and that's all that showed up, not even the item I was looking for showed up.
They need to crack down on the keyword spammers and let us see what we actually search for.

·11 months agoSorry to hear that. I would find that very offensive. Iv'e made a complaint to ebay and will contact action fraud the police side of the internet reports for my experience on the co.uk site.
I had a similar experience which I am angry about. On my eBay home page, amongst many other items suggested ot me, and relating to previous purchases and searches fair enough, which were mostly car parts, elecrical items and some studio art pottery which I have purchased in the past, I scrolled down and noticed a heading entitled :

Nudes- Landscapes.
...here I was being presented with items etc.. with full male nudity with men in a full state of arousal, Full on erections visible, which is pornagraphic.
I had the previous day searched for a specific artist, who does paint street scenes and landscapes. I have searched nothing related to nudes and anything else that could appropriate this.
The 2 mian problems I have with this, are
1. I do not want to see these images, and nor do anyone standing over my shoulder at the time of using ebay, including potentially any young children who might be around. 2. These images are not permitted by eBay to sell as far as I know.
I have spoke to eBay and reported my concerns and utter disappointment.
I also explained how strange it was that every other single item suggested to me on the home page, had the box with 3 small dots next to it,
this allows you to report the item, without the need to submit a seller name or item number. All except these male nudes which didn't have the option. I explained to eBay I refuse to click on those items to find the seller details and item number, a becuase I don't want to and as I don't want eBay to have an excuse to further substantiate that algorithm If that was what it was, hence me contacting them directly and told them to find the items themselves by viewing my home screen as I see it, which Tey say they have done.
I am waiting from ebay for an answer, to find out if the sellers have been reported correctly, a good reason as to why I was suggested pornagraphic images and why it was only those items which did have the 3 dots in the corner for me to report, being the only ones which were prohibited items, which is very weird.
And for the record as gone through with eBay over the phone, the very few sellers I follow and none of my searches are in anyway related to these items. Not only was it that I was suggested an item, that maybe was listed incorrectly as art as far as the bet possible scenario for ebay would be, the category itself as it appears in the heading says NUDES.
I will require a good explanation as I am sure so will the police. I am offended and in a day of such security ebay should be appauled of themselves considering how stringent they are with other such prohibited items.
I await my apolagy. and will update here when I am next contacted by ebay. Forgive me for repeating myself in places and the rushed post, I have spent hours dealing with this today, another reason I am so upset and for the energy and time wasted dealing with it.
Thanks foe sharing the ordinal post by the way, its important to pull up ebay, especially when their 'algorithms' and programmers are bordering on the depraved.
