How can I trust Ebay when they take info from Buyer who lied to them and now he gets his money back and I cannot guarantee to get the item I shipped?
Summary: dorothen_0 expressed frustration over a transaction dispute on eBay involving a figurine, where the buyer allegedly lied about the item's condition and purpose. The buyer claimed the item was for a collection, not as a gift, and alleged damages that weren't initially reported. The issue escalated, leading to eBay siding with the buyer for a refund. kensgiftshop and jameshen1 advised on maintaining professionalism in such situations, suggesting a straightforward approach to refund requests and only taking further action if the returned item isn't the original. They emphasized limiting communication to avoid conflict.
The conversation starts at the bottom.
LIES
He asked if it was new in box-my reply no, husband threw it away
said he looked at piece and there was no other damage but then said there was damage 2 weeks later
Said it was for his Mom-later said it was for his collection
Said he had friend that could look at the piece-never did
Lied to Ebay and said I told him it was new with box
lied and told Ebay I fudged photos
I am so beyond frustrated and I can never speak to anyone at Ebay and yet this man is sending me back an item and I am not sure it will even be the one I sent because he stated he has the exact same one in his collection. Yet ebay wants me to accept a piece, give back his money and not lsiten to my side. How do you handle things like this? He lied so many times and right to Ebay and yet they never even contacted me and I have all of these messages.

Hello. I’m reporting this transaction with all comments. This started off with a gift for your mom. I decreased payment, this is a brand new piece and as I said in message, I am concerned you’re trying to pull one over on me. I have never had one bad transaction until now and never once did you say a word about another area “damaged leaf” until now and you yourself said you have a good eye for this stuff. I’m sorry but my listing said no returns and I am contacting eBay about this and if given a bad review, I will also send submit a rebuttal for that as well. This is so sad and very disappointing.

I've reviewed photos of several other Orange Birds, talked to several collectors, as well as looked at my own pieces.None have any hardened clear liquid anywhere on them. The material Britto uses is white, and I've never seen any leak from from a joint.Every indication is the leg has been repaired, and glued back in place. The clear liquid on top of factory paint is further indication of a repair. The top left leaf is also missing it's tip. That was factory painted with no clear liquid, so no repair on it like the leg.Given it's conditional, I'm not comfortable adding it to my collection, and would like to return it.Photos showing the leg joint repair are attached.I have all the original packaging.Thank you in advance for helping work this out.

Unfortunately I cannot control defects but I do have this info that a friend got back from Britto when she purchased an insane expensive piece (bull of some sort) after she found some excess glue.If your Disney by Britto figurines have extra glue, you can safely remove it using a toothpick, a Q-tip with a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol, or by gently picking it off with your fingernail if the resin is glossy.Cleaning Excess Glue. Use a toothpick: Scrape gently at the edge of the glue blob. Resin and hard gloss finishes often let dried glue pop right off without scratching the paint.Try rubbing alcohol: Dab a cotton swab in a little rubbing alcohol. Touch it only to the glue. Wait one minute to loosen it, then wipe clean.Avoid harsh acetone: Acetone melts plastic and painted resin. Do not use nail polish remover near the figure.

Agree 100%Maybe it would have been best to look it over fully before mentioning any damage. I get a bit defensive due to something like this that has happened before to my husband and I. So my apologies. Please have it looked over. Thank you.

Understood. I'm willing to stake my eBay reputation on anything I can prove, so let me look it over better tomorrow, before we get too defensive.I've dealt with every type of fraudulent buyer in my 22 years of selling, so I understand your concern.I'm not that person. These are hard to find. I'm not going to knowingly buy a damaged one, or try to switch one for another. That's too much effort, and my time is way more valuable than that.

My concern is people trying to say something was broke or chipped and sending me something back that was not the one we shipped. Two of us thoroughly went over this piece before mailing it out and we are Jim Shore Colkectors so we know what to look for with damages and defects.

Okay, thanks. They don't show the leg well, but I'll look for others. I didn't notice any chips either. My eye tends to go directly to the odd place, defect, or damaged area. I tend to notice what others don't. The clear stuff makes me question a repair though. There should only be paint.Let me look at it in better light tomorrow.I have a friend that knows the artist, so I'll see if he knows anything about it. Otherwise, I may take it into the store and have them check it.

Also I looked at it thoroughly along with my husband as we were wrapping and packaging. And there was not one repair, chip or any form of damage.

This was never repaired nor ever cracked. I watched her myself remove it from the box and it was placed in her curio cabinet and never moved.

Hello,The bird arrived Saturday, and was packaged very well. Thank you for that.I did have a question about the leg with glitter on it. There's a gap where it meets the body, and what looks like some clear glue underneath. I'll take a better look at it, and get some photos on Monday for you.Could you please ask your aunt if his leg was repaired/re-attached at any point? It's odd to see clear glue, and not paint, in combination with the gap. I haven't seen one look quite like it before, except with a repair, so wanted to follow up with you. Thanks you,

·1 month ago · Edited@dorothen_0 I didn't read all fo that mess. I have better things to do that make me money. If you want to drain more money out of your time, by all means keep going around and around with your buyer.
eBay's policies are clear, which you should know since you sell here. You don't need to speak with eBay. They cannot help you should of telling you to formally ask them to get involved, which you should not do. If buyer has an issue and they open an INAD, you accept the return. You either refund and let them keep the item, or you require them to return it. If they send you back something different, you can report them but you still must refund them. If you offer free returns (and not below standard) or 30 day returns as a TRS, you can deduct up to 50% of the refund. If you don't have such a friendly return policy then you must issue a full refund.
You ask how I handle things like this? It starts with a friendly return policy. The second step is not to get bent out of shape and emotional over stuff. That's when you make bad choices and waste time. Just follow the policy eBay requires you to follow, and if you eat a loss then you know you need better return policies so you can reduce the buyer's refund or don't sell anything here that you aren't completely okay with losing.
You going around and around with the buyer is insane to me. What a waste of time. They are laughing at you because they know they have you. That's another mistake you made.
I have offered free returns for several years. Less than half of all opened returns actually get sent back, and there are tactics you can use within policy that can make it more difficult for buyers to send items back if you don't really want them back. You just got to figure it out, which you can't do when you are all emotional like you are.

·1 month agoYou have posted essentially the same thing 3 different places. One is plenty. Never get into a back and forth with someone. If they aren't happy and claim an item is not as described, don't insinuate they are lying or trying to cheat you. Don't mention no returns as that doesn't apply when they claim an item is not as described.
Just say "I am sorry you are not happy with the item. Please return for a refund". Nothing more. If they keep messaging you, just keep repeating that over and over. Once they return the item, you will need to refund them. Then you can relist. If the item you receive back is not the one you sent or was damaged, you can report the buyer. But not much more you can do at that point.
