eBay website loads so SLOW
Summary: The discussion focuses on the issue of the eBay website loading very slowly. Several participants are engaged, sharing their experiences and expressing frustration with the website's performance. The conversation appears to involve exchanges, but no specific solutions or external interventions are mentioned.
I can't understand why eBay's website loads so slow. I have fiber optic internet and a brand-new PC.
What's up? I can empty a ketchup bottle faster.

·1 month agoThis is so bad for sellers. It has to do with all their layers of crap. I can't even bid in a timely manner because I can't get the box to pop up before ebay asks me if I want to watch the seller or whatever they call it. I have missed at least 20 auctions because of this. Lame!

·5 months agoFor more than 20 years the eBay site has been working fine for me, albeit during that time I've watched it degenerate with cruddy new "features", more script bloat, and reduced performance (while at the same time my computing power and internet speeds have increased). I use Apple's native Safari on their latest OS (yeah I know, don't even get me started with how bad Apple has become....) and everything has been fine (as well as can be expected for Apple) until sometime last week when the site simply "bombed" for me. Nothing has changed on my end, and all other sites (including the poorly-coded resource hog known as Facebook) still function at their normal regular speeds (top-tier fiber optic ISP). I've cleared all local website data and done the painful computer reboot, but still eBay pages (and ONLY eBay) load VERY slowly, and typing into the Search field kills a page. Somebody sitting at an eBay desk with too much time on their hands "fixed" something that wasn't broken (taking too many cues from Apple and Microsoft), and now the site has become unusable for me, and apparently for other people also. I never thought such a thing could be possible, but eBay's inept site coding and resulting performance has now sunk lower than Facebook.

You may want to consider testing some things if you are having problems with slow page loads on eBay. There are some good suggestions in this thread if you are looking for a way to speed things up or to diagnose particular issues.
Not everyone is dealing with slow page loads at the moment, and that suggests that eBay is still capable of delivering pages at reasonable speeds, and that if you are experiencing a problem there may be some things you can do about it rather than waiting for eBay to address it.
At a minimum, you should try testing a new install of a popular browser with default settings and no add-ons installed to rule out a problem with your current Safari browser or extensions.

·6 months agoI am here because of the same issue. eBay is the only site I hate to use because of how long it takes to load every new page! I agree that it used to be great the first 20 years (i'd say, more like 15), and now it's garbage. I'm about done with it. eBay only cares about getting their cut from the sales, that's it. They don't care about buyers and their issues; about counterfeit items being sold on the platform. All they want is their %.

·1 year agoI have run the site on Firefox now for years.
But I started having issues about mid week last week. Turned out, eBay was fighting with my Malwarebytes Browser Guard plug in. I simply turned it off for eBay, been fine since. Nothing else had to be done.
Site runs fine.
I suggest checking for ANY kind of pop up blockers running while using eBay. Opera has them built in, but if you have any add-ons installed in your browser it could be causing an issue. I get customers all the time that have like 10 different discount plugins installed wreaking havoc on their browsers that I have to remove, there are a lot of bad ones out there.

·1 year agoExactly. Over the years ebay has occasionally updated the site and screwed it to garbage. In years past it would take them a while but they would fix it. Now they just leave it and don't bother.

·1 year agoDitto - eBay's performance is appalling. Never seen a site hang like this. Must have pretty bad devs to get it this wrong.

Which of the suggestions in this thread have you tried?

·1 year agoZero. Bc noone should have to do anything to make a site work. This is the only commerce site Ive been to which bogs down under its own poor coding and that when I comment about it I have someone gaslighting me that its somehow my fault and I have to do something lol. Suggest fixing the site, not telling users its their fault.

·1 year agoIt really is telling eBay has been COMPLETELY silent on this issue. With no guidance from them at all. It highlights the attitude eBay has towards users of the platform. eBay is more concerned with making stock holders happy. And not the users. I have closed a successful store because I refuse to suffer through eBays incompetence at fixing all their ills:
- executive malfeasance
- large fines from the government
- much higher seller fees
- less exposure unless you pay the fee to promote listings (which doubles seller fees.)
- irate buyers because they are having problems simply buying and paying for items
eBay was a great platform for the first 20 years.
The new crop of young "executives" haven't got a clue. (Devin Wenig I'm looking at you and how you sank eBay for your own ego.)

·6 months agoAbsolutely Spot on. Ebay's site sucks and they know it. They should pay dearly for this greedy sick behavior

·1 year agoIssue still continues. Almost unusable, waiting 20 seconds before the site comes back to life each time you go to a new page.

What browsers have you tried? Latest versions?
Have you tried disabling add-ons?

·2 years agoI've been having the exact same issue now for 2+ years and it's only the eBay site. Runs very slow and will freeze for up to 20 seconds at a time sometimes.

·2 years agoSince about the same time as all the posts above, our company has been experiencing problems with opening ebay webpages. We will have some employees have no issues getting to ebay pages at the same time others are unable to. We have had single computers that it will open eBay pages in one browser and not in another. We've tried everything from reboots, clearing cache and flushing dns with no effect. We have multiple users and our company is behind a firewall that blocks most foreign countries and our IT department noticed that eBay's load balancer was sending some of our traffic through foreign sites that we have blocked by our firewall like Hong Kong. I wonder if any of you experiencing the same issues are using a firewall that is blocking traffic through foreign IP addresses.

·2 years agoI have the same problems.
No matter what browser I use, the only site I have a problem with is eBay.
I can go to eBid, my websites, and other places and everything loads with no problem.
I have clear the cache and such.
For me, it's eBay that my computer hates. 😄

Any common add-ons in all those browsers? Ad blockers or script blockers? Privacy or security software that might be slowing things down? Like Ghostery or Disconnect?

·2 years agoWhat is loading slowly for you, exactly?
If search results are loading slowly, try temporarily disabling your ad blocker to see if that makes a difference. There may be a specific set of filters slowing things down.
If that does not help, try another browser to see if that makes a difference.
I have not noticed any recent changes in loading speeds of eBay pages.
my58543
OP2 years agoLoading any page on eBay, search results, active listing's, literally any page.
I do not have any active ad blockers. This is a brand new laptop. Doesn't matter if I use Microsoft Edge or Google chrome. Any other website page loads fast and quick.
I feel it's got to be a setting somewhere I just can't figure it out.

Edge and Chrome are both Chromium-based browsers. Try installing the latest version of Firefox with no add-ons or extensions using default settings and see if that works any better for you.

OP2 years agoTried Firefox, it does load faster. I would rather use Edge or Chrome. I'll keep looking for a solution.

·2 years agoGlad to hear that Firefox is loading faster -- that at least indicates that eBay is able to deliver the page in a [more] reasonable time.
You should still be able to use Chrome or Edge if you prefer either of those; it is just a question of figuring out what is slowing things down in those two browsers.
It might be worth trying an incognito browser window in Chrome -- if that loads faster that might point to a cookie or cache issue. I would suggest clearing your browser cache "for all time", and possibly manually deleting just your eBay cookies. No need to erase all cookies, and if there is a problem with a corrupt cookie, deleting all cookies may not actually work. Manually deleting just your eBay cookies should get you to start with a new cookie when you sign in again.
It might also be worth scanning for adware or malware -- sometimes new computers come with some things pre-installed, and that might include some things you do not want. Poorly constructed adware could be trying to load ads and slowing things way down.
