Ebay Search -Toggle Options Return Error Message Page - Site/Category Wide Issue!
@elizabeth@ebay
I started a thread on the Selling board yesterday on this issue, you can read through that thread here:
https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Sales-Down-Recently-Maybe-Part-Reason/m-p/33917247#M2257276
The Issue: I sell in Music > Vinyl Records. When I type in Band / Album Title into ebay search for past few days when I go to the Left Navigation options and toggle/click "Vinyl Records" every single time brings me to the Ebay Error Message Page, this is the same result for all options under "Show More" - CD's, Vinyl records, any option for that category. (pics below). Make a thread on Seller board and other reported they get the same in other categories, Books was one of them. I made a tag to Kyle and he replied this morn and said there were no reports of the issue. But others I know had called and had tickets made.
The issue is site wide for many many categories, not just music category. Sales are WAY DOWN past 2 weeks. First issue was with Promoted Listings 2 weeks ago, they fixed that since sales are still bad. Come to find the search isn't working when you search and toggle options. This can be huge part in lack of sales. If people cannot search and toggle options for what they want and keep getting error message (show below) they won't buy anything and just leave.
I called and made a ticket today, if anything comes of that idk, the way ebay reps handle tickets anymore it's all a guess if they actually file a ticket.

OP2 years agothe errors are still relevant to using search via your seller hub, if use it at site homepage it doesn't do it...been my experience since was mentioned earlier in the thread.

·2 years agoThank you. I did see that and it works if I do the search from 'my ebay' page. Because sales are so slow, I wonder whether there are glitches in the search engine for buyers? Last year August was one of my best months.
phoenix317
·2 years agoThere is definitely a glitch. I got that same message today when I clicked 'Antiquarian' sub-category under Books. My sales are way down this month & it has to be search engine glitches, because my sales are steady month to month. I posted today on this Community Board. eBay must know about it - must be happening to sellers and buyers. Sellers complain, buyers simply go somewhere else. You would think eBay would fix it promptly since they get a percentage of our sales.

·2 years agoIt's been happening to me since last week. Great, the lousy no sales continues
phoenix317
·2 years agoLousy is correct - my sales are down 50%.

·2 years agoYes, I am still seeing this issue. If I start a search from the Seller Hub overview page and then use the left-hand filters I get this
mcdougle4248
·2 years ago@kyle@ebay
Do you have any insight on why this is still occurring?
phoenix317
·2 years agoI have a question. Are buyers having trouble with searches? Are there other search glitches? As sellers, we report issues, but most buyers probably just leave after sighing in frustration.
mcdougle4248
·2 years agoI am not sure if buyers are having search issues. I only have trouble when I start a search from the Seller Hub Overview page. I would guess that buyers (who are not also sellers) would start their search from the Home page and not encounter the issue, but that is just a guess on my part.
I took a quick look at the first couple of pages on Buying Community board
here https://community.ebay.com/t5/Buying/bd-p/bidding-buying-db and did not see any posts about this search issue.
phoenix317
·2 years agoYeah, that's the page I got. It is supposed to be "cute" - photo & text, but it's just frustrating!

·3 years agoIf anybody can, please check out my post here:
WE LOOKED EVERYWHERE LOOKS LIKE THIS PAGE IS MISSING
and see if you can replicate this other way I'm getting the "WE LOOKED EVERYWHERE. LOOKS LIKE THIS PAGE IS MISSING" message. This one includes the added bonus of all of eBay not working for up to 10 minutes before it starts working again.
Thanks!

OP3 years agoI haven't had time to check myself yet...getting there, just got home and in office a bit ago and I had a title I started for listing today this morning I had to finish.. now I must go get something to eat...check it out soon.

·3 years agoI was wondering about this also for the past few days. Another mess, no sales again. What's going on!

·3 years agoSame problem here for music.....but only if I start the search from the Seller Hub Overview page, and then click on Records or CDs etc.
If I start from other pages there's no problem. So far I've tested Seller Hub Orders, Listings Payments, Wish List, and Ebay home page.
Look at the web addresses after these searches, from the listed starting page:
seller hub overview
https://www.ebay.com/sch?_from=R40&_trksid=p2323012.m570.l1313&_nkw=tom+petty+echo&_sacat=0
seller hub orders
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2303516.m570.l1313&_nkw=tom+petty+echo&_sacat=0
seller hub listings
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380680.m570.l1313&_nkw=tom+petty+echo&_sacat=0
seller hub payments
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2564123.m570.l1313&_nkw=tom+petty+echo&_sacat=0
ebay home page
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p4432023.m570.l1313&_nkw=tom+petty+echo&_sacat=0
Wish List
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2505460.m570.l1313&_nkw=tom+petty+echo&_sacat=0
The seller hub overview gives a slightly different address (After "sch" and before "from"), which is probably the problem.
It leaves off the "/i.html". Probably just a coding typo, and could be fixed by adding that back in for the seller hub overview page.
If you have the problem leave what page you're starting your search from, and if the error is happening on other different starting points.

Yep, I followed your steps and have the same results as you described. It does seem to be an issue when starting a search from the Seller Hub Overview page.
valueaddedresource
·3 years ago@tx-shopping thanks for this info - I was able to replicate what you've found here as well and can confirm if you manually add the "/i.html" where it should go in the Seller Hub Overview link, the error goes away.
@kyle@ebay can you get this to the appropriate team please? It appears the link that is created when searching starting from the search bar on the Seller Hub Overview page has a coding error.
elizabeth@ebay
Thank you everyone for reporting this. We'll get this over to the proper team right away. Thanks @valueaddedresource.

OP3 years ago@mcdougle4248 get it if search band and title so like from the example you had, just band name gets you ability to toggle Vinyl Records option with results. Band name and title gets you ability to see the kid in the coat image Error Message. - IDK why, it's like search query is messed up or something.
nuclearomen
OP3 years ago@mcdougle4248 i still get the error page when select Vinyl Records from the options, but as for #1 position, yes, because I've sold many of them, even though the listing was ended and then relisted with new listing 2x now (once for red vinyl and once for black... this will be last listing for it, they are gone everywhere and none left to get)
Correction I was able to use the vinyl records options if just search band without title, band with title gets you error page
mcdougle4248
·3 years ago@nuclearomen
Well, that is interesting that you are still getting the error. Maybe we are still seeing server issues?
Whatever is going on eBay needs to get on this and FIX it. So frustrating...
nuclearomen
OP3 years agolittle aggravated, don't want to say blame on this or that as specific, just kinda ticked off that things that seem to don't work are kinda important to determine sales, Promoted Listings, Listing Tool, Check Out, Private Coupons Not Sending to Buyers/Followers, Newletters not getting sent, and yes Search Engine (among other things, to name a few). Multi Billon Company and the absolute worst web designers in history.
mcdougle4248
·3 years ago@nuclearomen
Maybe eBay is working on the issue. I just did a search and used the left-hand filters to select Vinyl Records and one of your listings is in the number 1 position. No error screen when selecting Vinyl Records.
wil_483592
·3 years agoFor a few days when I search and the narrow down by item specifics I get the error page. 3 days now and nothing has been done.
mcdougle4248
·3 years ago@nuclearomen
I have been seeing a similar issue for over a week and have reported it twice now. At this point I think there is an overall issue with the left-hand filters causing these errors.
wil_483592
·3 years agoOne of the ebay people responded since he was tagged in the post and said he had no reports of it and to contact customer support. What's the point of tagging a cs ebay rep and they tell you to report it. Useless
nuclearomen
OP3 years agoyes, I did report it to CS today, but others have reported it over a week now, so reports were made, tickets were supposedly filed but nothing has been done. What good is a site with buyers searching for something to buy but can't get the search results they want using the search filers? No wonder sales are down.
wil_483592
·3 years agoEbay really just keeps going downhill.
nuclearomen
OP3 years agoTheir efforts to fix things that are kinda important is non-existent but their push to change things and roll out more things that don't work is priority - every time. This site has had search issues for longtime, were they fixed? Some perhaps, mostly not, now it's so bad can't even search and narrow the search for more specific result, like music format. I know for fact, we all know, no buyer will infest more then a few moments in searching, after 1 - 2 maybe 3 times getting that kid in the jacket error page they are done, left, ain't buying anything. Now for what I sell, most things don't have massive results of page after page, but, that doesn't mean keywords of band and title don't return few pages of mix bag of results...someone wants vinyl they toggle the option so they don't have to see all the other stuff, cd, shirt, poster idk...name it. But that's me, what about sellers selling in categories / specific item with 50 page results - 100 - 300... get the point, no one is going through all them without some kind of search toggle to narrow it down.
mcdougle4248
·3 years agoYou just hit the nail on the head. This is a structured data issue. We as sellers enter as many item specifics as possible and now...well it is over my head all I can say is something is broken again.
nuclearomen
OP3 years ago@mcdougle4248 something is broken again for sure, question is was it broke purposely or unknowingly - sorry have to wonder sometime when every weekend without fail something magically don't work and weekend sales that should be soring for sellers are in the trash.
nuclearomen
OP3 years agoyes, like said in other thread, not sure what categories it does it but it does it in music, reported by someone for books, another reported same issue with searching sold items...so it's not one category but many.
