eBay repeatedly asking to add VAT ID and/or confirm that we are using OSS
Summary: A participant inquired about being repeatedly asked by a platform to add a VAT ID or confirm the use of OSS. Two others have responded, but there is no detailed content provided in the discussion.
eBay has sent us 25 identical messages today claiming that we are required to add a VAT ID due to a recent sale to an EU country X.
"Please act now to prevent your account from being restricted".
However our business account already has a valid VAT ID added and we confirmed we are using OSS scheme, that has been a long time ago and we made hundreds of sales since then.
eBay has also sent us a warning that an UK VAT ID needs to be uploaded, however we are a business located in the EU, we do not stock items in the UK, our sales in the UK do not go above the VAT registration threshold, the UK VAT is paid either by a buyer (an "importer") himself or automatically surcharged/paid by eBay (for orders <= 150 GBP). We contacted HMRC a long time ago and got their written response claiming that we are not eligible for an UK VAT ID (for the reasons we listed).
Contacting a "live agent" on eBay support page was useless because these call center people know absolutely nothing about crossborder VAT laws and won't even consider that a website might have a glitch.
There is some sort of a glitch on eBay that keeps sending such warning messages to sellers who don't really need to update their data.

Assuming your account is registered here on ebay.com, contact the eBay CS social media teams instead. They are much more experienced than the call center folks.
Only use Private DM or PM Messaging - do not post your account info publicly.
Give them your User ID, your real name/address/country, the email attached to your account, and explain the issue in detail.
They usually respond in a day or two.
