Ebay is double dipping fees on BOGO sales. How many people are affected?
I have BOGO sales and the buyer must use the cart to get the promotion applied.
Sometimes it appears on my seller hub as 2 separate transactions, I never bothered investigating because if I was doing buy 3 get 1 free usually the free one would show up as its own transaction.
Today I had a buyer do the BOGO, and its listed as 2 separate transactions for 2 items each, so I looked further, I looked at the order details and EBay is taking the .40 cents from each of the two transactions, when in reality it should all be ONE transaction since the buyer must use the cart to check out and get the promo.
WHY is this happening? Sometimes people use the cart and all items show as one transaction, sometimes it shows as 2 separate transactions, this has been going on for years. Now I am thinking Ive been getting overcharged for years.
How many people is this happening to? How can Ebay double charge on one transaction?

·1 year agoIt sounds like you're experiencing a glitch with eBay’s BOGO promotions where the system is mistakenly processing multiple transactions instead of a single one, leading to double fees on the same sale. This issue could be affecting other sellers too, especially those with similar promotional setups (like BOGO or Buy 3 Get 1 Free). It seems to be a recurring issue where eBay sometimes splits a single cart order into multiple transactions.
To fix this, you should:
1. Contact eBay support to report the issue and ask for clarification on their fee structure during BOGO promotions.
2. Keep an eye on your transactions in Seller Hub to make sure this doesn’t happen in future sales.

Both of these from the exact same promotion.
Example on left shows my screenshot from earlier today, 1 sale/transaction separated into 2 separate processed transactions. I confirmed 2 separate payment processing fees.
Example on right from 2 weeks ago from same promotion, all 4 items in one transaction, I confirmed only 1 payment processing fee.
Exact Same Promotion.
The only way to get the promotion is to add all 4 items to the cart & check out with 1 payment.
Therefore should only be 1 processing fee.

·1 year agoI expect to pay that 40 cents on every order. I would continue to expect to pay it if the item was free.
It costs Ebay money to process an order, whether it is paid or free.
It never would occur to me that giving away the product would remove that fee. They do their work, they should be paid. If you want only one 40 cent fee, create a bundle and list it.

OP1 year agoNot correct, this is through a buy 3 get 1 free promotion through EBay, and the Ebay rules specifically state that in order to get the promotion the buyer MUST use the cart.. that processing transaction fee is per transaction, not per item. Plus, it doesnt always happen, and since I do free shipping and a buyer MUST use the cart to check out and pay in order to get the promotion, that is one transaction, one payment submitted, and therefore should only be one processing fee.
Many times thats exactly what happens, but not always. If that wasnt the case, I'd see the processing fee on each item even though the cart is used, and that doesnt happen.

Happens to me on International buyers...they cannot add items in a cart for asking a combined shipping cost.
I get replies all the time buyers can't add items for a discount shipping rate.
Isn't it strange eBay makes new changes all the time...like the new message system....but for years cannot fix this old, old problem?
I refund combined shipping refund for a lot of 3 items for one buyer where I get charged .40 eBay fee for each item buyer paid since items paid could not even be combined...I don't get that .40 X 2 eBay fee back since buyer couldn't combine or even ask for a total. And this has nothing to do with my payment setup as a lot here always say that.

·1 year agoCheck your payment settings - if you "Require immediate payment" Ebay will process each item one at a time.
They do not combine purchases into one order. They charge shipping for each item. Combined shipping is not implemented even if you offer Combined shipping.

·1 year ago@jeansjewelry .... that hasn't been my experience. I let ebay combine shipping with the cart and require immediate payment with buy it now and it comes across as one order.

·1 year agoIt may come to you in one payment but on the buyer's end, each item is processed separately.
The sellers I buy from refund the excess shipping fees because each item was charged a shipping fee. When they stopped requiring immediate payment, then they could combine shipping.

·1 year agoMy BOGOs are only for buy 1 get 1 at 50%. So, if someone were to buy 2 it might still split the order out as between 2 full priced items and the 50% off item with a .40 fee for each.

OP1 year agoIt shows separate transactions with separate fees even though the buyer used the cart to check out and pay. In the example I posted, each one charged a separate .40 cents even though the buyer used the cart to check out and pay.
It doesnt always happen, but when it does Im charged twice.
I dont know why I cant get an answer on this:

·1 year ago2 low dollar items and that .40 can be almost 50% of the total fees as above. This was for 2 low price Jewelry items on BOGO 50% off sale I am running.

OP1 year agoI know this, perhaps Im not explaining it better. I am talking about the payment processing fee of .40.
If I do a BOGO promotion, a buyer must use the cart to check out and have the promotion applied. Most times all items will appear as one transaction.
Sometimes they appear as two separate transactions, see my screenshot example below. Upon looking at the order summary, EBay is taking the payment processing fee twice, even though the only way the customer would even be able to qualify for the promotion is to use the cart and check out and pay ONCE, therefore should only be one payment processing fee.

·1 year ago@cbacal Can't say that I've seen this happen myself. If I understand you correctly the buyer is getting their one item free (can't tell the individual item prices from your screenshot) and the only issue is that you are getting charged for two 40 cent fixed fees instead of one because of two orders.
Consider the following:
- Is it possible buyer didn't select the same shipping method for all items? I wouldn't be surprised that they need to be the same to be in the same order.
- Is it possible buyer checked out with additional items in the eBay cart that weren't yours? You'd probably have to ask the buyer. Seems unlikely, though.

OP1 year agoNo, none of these are possible.
Its a buy 3 get 1 free promotion Ive run for years.
I do free shipping so no they cant choose any different shipping options.
If the buyer checked out with other items to another seller that shouldnt affect me.
Most importantly, the ONLY way they get the promotion is by adding all 4 items to the cart.
Ive seen this happen a lot of times, however it usually has 3 items in one order, and 1 item in a second order, so I never bothered to check if I was getting double charged.
If you look at my screenshot above, you will see this time its 2 items in each order, thats what prompted me to check on the fees and saw the .40 cents charged on each- which should be impossible because they must use the cart to check out and get the promotion.
It doesnt always happen, I cant say how many times, but its happened plenty of time, but this is the first time Ive seen 2 items + 2 items (instead of the forementioned 3+1 items), hence why I investigated deeper today. I am kicking myself for never checking earlier as I'd bet over the last few years Ive seen this happen probably 75-100 times.
Ive been running this promo for years, in fact its the header on my store Ive done it so much.
To be clear, some of the above mentioned examples listed by others today dont apply to me. I do free shipping on everything
I cant be the only one affected by this, but in my opinion EBay has some explaining to do on why this could possible happen.
