eBay GLITCH ALERT! Ebay charging for gallery plus in Collectibles!
Ebay has done it again! In late 2021 there was a glitch where they started charging fees for gallery plus pictures where they should be free in Collectibles categories. I put on a new listing this morning and noticed that they had started doing this again some time in the past 24 hours. This impacts all RELISTED items as well, so I have been charged an additional $118. Ebay will deny the problem and bury it but all sellers need to be aware and flood them with calls so that they fix it as soon as possible. I'm currently talking with a rep who has no clue what is going on!

·3 years agoSame thing here. Just noticed it today, but thanks to this forum I'm going to look at my whole account because I'm sure they've been scamming me the whole time. I'm chatting with a clueless rep who keeps reiterating what categories are free. I keep telling her that when I see 0.00 and provide you with a screenshot of where I selected that from, that's free also. They want to charge us for their glitch and that's not happening because I'm turning this over to the authorities because it's illegal. It's basically bait and switch so I suggest everyone do that too, make a formal complaint with the FTC.

·3 years agoI made the mistake of contacting ebay for business about the $13,700 in **bleep** Gallery Plus fees. Pretty poor whenthey have zero clue about what is actually happening: "Thank you for that. I reviewed the Gallery plus on your listings, and it looks like they were placed on all your listings showing the fee. The Gallery fee is a listing feature we provide, and it is not refundable. This feature allows buyers to see a large pop-up window instantly so your buyer’s can see a bigger picture of your item. If you edited your items in bulk and clicked the box in your listing template saying listing gallery plus, it could cause multiple items to have this feature. It is also possible for this feature to be in a single listing if gallery plus is checked. I completely see why this is concerning, and I am here with you. I will make sure to notate the account about this issue. Have a great rest of your night. ~Tiffany"

·3 years agoUnsure if this was mentioned previously. or not. The whole situation is giving me a major headache. According to the dot com announcement the price change is affective Feb 15, 2023. On dot ca the price change is April 1. Unsure of why the difference but how it reads. Has anyone been able to confirm if the fee change was turned on or off correctly in the sub-categories of Antiques? Or was it maybe hit or miss?

OP3 years agoNo categories that had free gallery plus before this update should have been charged. This was entirely an eBay generated problem. So you do not have to edit any of your listings. As of yesterday they had refunded the money they had taken from me. I just hope they have learned something and will not make the same mistake for a 3rd time 6 months or a year from now.

Because eBay bills per listing(listing upgrade fees it has caused seller(s) to be billed immediately for the gallery error if they had no funds either available or pending. The back up would be the attached bank account/cc. It could potentially cause NSF charges (overdraft(. I had this happen to me at the beginning of eBay when a buyer wanted to change the shipping so only option was to refund and relist for the buyer. Their refund was pulled from my bank account causing a 45.00 charge for something I had no control over. In theory these should be straight reversals but does not seem to be the way things happen in eBay land.
In hearing from a few other sellers this billing nightmare has happened to they were told they had to be corrected 1 at a time. Another peril caused by the lack of a monthly itemized invoice.

As a side, I've even heard of this happening when sellers sold a promoted item and the associated fee was pulled from the bank account vs the pending transaction.

·3 years agoHonestly, I had Gallery Plus on all of my listings, and had no idea what is this feature for. I tried it just after I got my first charge .... and it makes no sense to me. Believe me, like most of you, I am also a frequent Ebay BUYER, and buy at least 50 items every month. And I NEVER EVER clicked on this strange magnifying glass to enlarge the first photo. Yesterday, I removed this weird and obsolete feature from all my 3.000 listings and do not plan to add it in the future at all.

·3 years agoPossibly from an eBay perspective, whenever the fee is applicable, it is considered a "Bad eyes" Tax!!! 🙄

OP3 years agoI have 12,500 items up so about 400 each day roll over and I was hit for $252 before they fixed the initial problem. If there are 10,000 eBay sellers who are as big or bigger than me that would be well over 2 million dollars. If there are another 100,000 that each had about 10 items affected that is another million dollars.
And all because they never bothered to try and prevent the same problem they had already had. Absolutely unbelievable!

·3 years agoTry over $13,700. How quick will it be taken out of my bank account versus put back in?
paytonrules2003
OP3 years agoThe shame is that they never learn from their own mistakes. The same exact problem cropped up in October of 2021 as there are posts from that time in the eBay community forums. They knew about this update for 4 months. Did no one bother to make sure that the same problem would not crop up again? Of course not!

·3 years agoI've chatted with two different customer service agents and neither had a clue that there was even a problem. All I get from them is "we will check on that for you".

·3 years agoI haven't been charged anything (yet), but on a related note, this morning when I did sell similar on a listing which DOES charge $1 for Gallery Plus and which I always uncheck, while the original had it UNchecked the new one had it auto checked. Luckily I noticed before I hit list, but now I'm wondering what will happen when they roll over.
paytonrules2003
OP3 years agoI understand your frustration as I wasted 30 minutes on the phone plus an equal amount of time trying to get the word out to other sellers on the message board when I should have been working. I'm not going to waste even more time editing thousands of listings 50 at a time to fix a problem that really should not exist. I'd rather simply make sure I get my fees back in a timely manner. Your choice is of course up to you.

On a side note, you can edit 2000 listings at a time in seller hub. I just edited all mine (2500) and it took 30 seconds.
paytonrules2003
OP3 years agoProbably not worth your time to remove it but that is up to you. I'm up to $151 in charges and counting. I'd simply make sure you get those charges removed within a week. Why they don't check for these bugs before doing their IT updates is beyond me.

·3 years agoIt's - according to the rep I just spoke with "being worked on" .... but think about the MILLIONS of auto-relist items in collectibles that they are collecting REAL TIME - $1.00 in extra fees on. It's one thing for something like this to happen when they did monthly invoices - but they will literally rake in a few million dollars before this is fixed. Of course they need to pay it back... but this is shameful that they could ever allow this to happen.

·3 years agoWe were charged $4 for 4 of our listings rolling over / renewing... we have bulk edited everything as soon as we saw this silly change. This feature used to be free, in most collectibles categories.

Hey @paytonrules2003! We apologize about the issue you are experiencing with the gallery plus feature charging fees to your account when it should not be. There is an open sitewide ticket to have this issue resolved and can be seen on our Tech Board here. You can reach out to customer support here to have your account added to the ticket and just let them know that you are running into ALERT14469.

·3 years agoSo does this mean this is a known mistake and will be fixed and our charges credited back to us? AND does this mean that I do NOT have to go through all my 3,000 listings and unckeck the FREE GALLERY box before my listings automatically renew after 30 days? Because this is what I have been doing instead of working for the last 45 minutes.
paytonrules2003
OP3 years agoYes. It eventually will be fixed but I would check your performance page in about a week to make sure that your account was credited for the fees. You can also add yourself to the alert list by referring to message #12.
WHY EBAY DOES NOT ALERT ALL SELLERS TO THINGS LIKE THIS WHEN THEY HAPPEN IS A PET PEEVE OF MINE.
tmorris2
·3 years agoI was told all fees will be refunded. But I'm with you ... I have SEVERAL HUNDRED store items that will renew in the next few hours .... They've already dipped into my account 45 times for 45 collectibles re-lists... and I really don't want to front them another couple hundred $ ... so I am removing the feature. What a waste of time.
ekmadonna
·3 years agoI just opened a ticket and was told the tech team needs to research all this before any credits will be given. NO TIME FRAME on A FIX. I for one am NOT WAITING around while thousands of items relist automatically and rack up charges. This seems plain stupid to me. so I am going to be PROACTIVE and EDIT every single listing and UNCHECK the FREE GALLERY Checkbox and REVISE my listings to avoid hundreds of dollars being charged to my account.

·3 years agoThe technical issue reported here is not correct. Gallery Plus IS opted into the items, it’s just supposed to be FREE because they are in collectibles categories. What a fiasco!!
paytonrules2003
OP3 years agoEbay at its finest. Incompetent and not understanding something that is so basic that it was listed in 2 sentences by me 4 hours ago.
ITEMS IN THE COLLECTIBLES AND ART CATEGORIES ARE SUPPOSED TO GET GALLERY PLUS FOR FREE.
SINCE MIDNIGHT LAST NIGHT ALL ITEMS IN THOSE CATEGORIES HAVE BEEN CHARGED $1 APIECE AS THEY HAVE BEEN RELISTED BY THE SYSTEM.
Two sentences, see? FIX THE PROBLEM IDIOTS AND REFUND MY MONEY. OVER $250 at last look.
paytonrules2003
OP3 years agoAs of 1:53pm EST the problem has been resolved. They will go through and credit fees for sellers though this may take awhile. Your board in the selling fees portion of the performance chart will look something like this:
When the 2 numbers are equal you are back in balance.

·3 years ago@paytonrules2003
I personally don't use gallery plus, but I know it's supposed to be free for those in collectibles and I noticed this morning there was a $1 fee if I wanted to add it. It's always something. 🙄
nobody*s_perfect
·3 years agoThis should be reported on the "Share eBay technical issues" board and with an @ to at least one of the eBay employees who work with the boards. Looks like somebody who programmed the seller update changes forgot to renew the exemption for the "free" categories.
paytonrules2003
OP3 years agoTO CHECK ON WHAT YOU ARE BEING CHARGED:
If you want to check and see how you are affected go to your ebay seller hub and click on the performance tab. Then scroll down to selling costs. Optional listing upgrade fees are where you will be socked for the extra charges.
Please disregard all of ebooksdiva posts as she is 100% incorrect.
I guess you missed the 2023 Winter Seller Update. Changes started today February 15 2023

OP3 years agoSupposedly they are now working on the problem. My rep says that she will let me know via eBay messages when it is resolved and the time frame for getting monetary charges removed from all of our accounts.
If you want to check and see if you are affected go to your ebay seller hub and click on the performance tab. Then scroll down to selling costs. Optional listing upgrade fees are where you will be socked for the extra charges.
Gallery plus feature is not free Selling fees As of February 15 2023

OP3 years agoIT would be nice if you bothered to read what you ringed in red before posting incorrect information. Gallery plus is FREE for collectibles categories.

·3 years agoSame here, I have charges for $1.00 GALLERY PLUS fees on items in collectibles that have relisted after 30 days. Never been a charge and all of a sudden I am being charged for this! Can an EBAY BLUE Please ADDRESS this issue on the boards?
