Does eBay really care about fee circumvention?
I recently stumbled upon a situation that makes me wonder if eBay is putting too much trust in AI to reduce their human intelligence payroll. I found a seller that had an item I was interested in. This seller has 96% positive feedback and ~100 items for sale. I noticed that in all of the auctions, there is the picture that I have attached below. This is clearly a violation and I found it funny that it was so blatantly blunt. I decided to report one of the items, with the pic attached, just to see if eBay would remove the item, or let it go. 30 minutes later, I got an email, stating the following:
Hello tendertendon,
Thanks again for reporting the content you found.
Your reference ID:
2-199083468030
What happened:
We looked into your report and didn’t find the content to be in violation of our policy. This determination was made by a customer service agent.
If you reported content that isn’t included in the above reference ID, we’ll send a separate email once we’ve made a decision.
If a customer service agent actually saw this, the item would have been removed. This leads me to think that they just don't care enough to pay employees to investigate these reports and their AI isn't quite ready for the job. I was given the option to appeal their decision, but I really don't care enough to waste any more time on it. I guess if the seller has figured out a way to put more money in his/her pocket without getting caught, why not go for it...

·10 months agoReporting this kind of listing seems to follow the same path. They get caught, stop for a while then do it again. If eBay thinks you took the sale off their platform, they can and do charge the selling fees. Even if that is the case, fees being charges the seller, I would think it would be in eBay and the buyers best interest that those sellers should have harsh penalties for doing this esp. because it would void the buyers protection, Money Back.

Hey @dhbookds! We do encourage to report policy violations and I can share with the Product team the messaging that is being received by members who are doing the reporting.

·10 months agoAI can pick those types of statements from description text but sellers circumvent it by posting images. They know exactly what they're doing and that it's wrong.

·10 months agoI think eBay as a company cares but some of their employees are unable to make a competent evaluation or decision.
I have come across some that have their contact information available within their listing or within their "About" statement page.

·10 months agoReporting items for listing policy violations tends to be very "hit or miss" lately, to say the least. Even when the listing violation seems pretty blatant and obvious. Perhaps the customer service rep did not see the image.
