Digging into time away it appears my guess was correct.
It still allows auto offers to be declined & accepted unless you turn off auto offer tools.
So, your offer has been accepted but you wont be able to pay until the seller returns from time away.

Whether you choose to allow sales or pause them, delivery dates won't be updated for:

·1 year agoWhen a seller is away, if they have the auto accept/decline for offers set up, is it possible for them to go through? Even if seller is on time away? Perhaps?

Actually, you have misunderstood. That item has not been sold, it is still active, but the seller is taking a break (on time away) and is not accepting purchases while they are away. That's why you can't buy it.

The message at checkout (using a laptop) is actually:

·1 year agoThat item number shows the listing is still active but the seller is on Time Away mode for the next week.

There is no message about the listing being sold @beaner-bob .

Are you sure that's the correct item number? Please post the entire URL link to the listing.

I'm on a laptop and I see this: "The seller is away until May 20, 2025. Add this item to your watchlist to keep track of it."

·1 year agoYes, you're right, we can't see that. You have to be logged in to your account to see your offers.
When did the seller accept the counteroffer?
I don't know how the counteroffer interacts with the seller being on time away. They have it set to block purchases, so I suspect that would be why you can't purchase it. I tried putting that item into my cart and going to checkout to confirm that they are blocking purchases. That's how I got the message that I quoted.
It wouldn't be the first time eBay showed an incorrect message when something goes weird. Maybe they don't have a message programmed for that exact scenario.
