Available Quantity randomly changing?
Went to my listings page to check on inventory and noticed some strange numbers under the "available quantity" column. Huge numbers that I did not input... in fact, many seemed to mirror the number sold. This seemed to affect approximately 10% of the listings... the others were fine. Has this happened to anyone else? I went to the listing page and it did show that large number available as well... which could have been inconvenient if someone actually tried to buy 44pcs of my stock that I only had 4 of!

Hello everyone. We just wanted to provide an update that credits will be automatically processed back to affected sellers for the .30 cent fee so sellers will not need to reach out for that. The anticipated date of those credits being processed is early next week.
Have a great day!
valueaddedresource
·3 years agoThanks for the update @elizabeth@ebay !
valueaddedresource
·3 years agoCurious if anyone who cancelled orders using the "out of stock" reason due to this issue has been refunded the $0.30 per transaction fee?
Normally that fee is not refunded for that reason and eBay's announcement about seller protections didn't mention it. 🤔

·3 years agoGot this today 6 days latter. On May 26, 2023 an update was made to listings with international shipping options. As part of this recent change, we inadvertently increased the quantity of some of your listings.
We understand that this may have caused you to cancel orders or issue refunds and we’re working to correct these quantity errors.
What you need to know
We’ve updated any listings to show the correct quantity available and quantity sold.
For listings where you’ve revised the quantity, we won’t make any changes.
If you canceled orders, received negative feedback, or had stockout strikes during our update, we’ll ensure that your seller rating isn’t affected.
If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch. We’re here to help
Thanks for being part of the eBay community

·3 years agoMan, doesn't seem very unapologetic. Oh well, I put my account on hold for a day to fix b/c I'd rather do that then sell a ton and have to cancel and create that disaster. I've already had to call a few times to remove defects that are trickling in from the first few days. Now it's always in the back of my mind even if they remove the defects does it hurt my status in searches.
elizabeth@ebay
Good morning @andrealee00. We're currently aware of a site wide Alert (14709) that is impacting sellers and are working to get this resolved quickly. Please reach out to customer service to be added to their ticket, as an SR Number is required that we cannot provide. This issue has been added to the tech board as well.
jbcoutfitters
·3 years ago@elizabeth@ebay what is being done for transaction defects due to this? I had to cancel three orders which all got defects. I called and spoke to a CSR before this was a widely known issue.
shipscript
·3 years ago@jbcoutfitters
You can request defect removal citing Alert (14709)
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/selling/seller-performance-overview/appeal-defect?id=4871
However, this new announcement may indicate automatic defect removal:
https://community.ebay.com/t5/Announcements/Seller-Protections-for-listings-with-International-Shipping/ba-p/33778409
elizabeth@ebay
Good morning @jbcoutfitters. You can call them back now that the issue is known and they can process that removal for you. However, @shipscript makes an excellent callout that if a decision is made to remove them in bulk automatically, the agent will let you know that as well.

·3 years agoStill not fixed here.
I did find that the problem seems to be focused on my multi variation listings and the new, incorrect quantities are the Initial quantity minus the sold quantity. It seems to be that the available quantity MINUS the sold is giving me the accurate quantity that I had before this glitch. Still going to to take me days to fix, but this seems to be getting the correct numbers (not counting what sold over the weekend!)
Ebay fix this!! Or issue an apology to our buyers!
geek_barn
·3 years agoThey did something for sure, but obviously not a complete fix yet. Hoping they still come through with a complete fix, I have a partial fix on my store currently (weird) and I still can't be fully confident about my listings overall. If anyone gets an update on this let us know! I'll be calling today as well.

·3 years agoI'm not in these rooms much(thankfully), but doesn't an ebay rep usually respond pretty quick with possible solutions? This is a massive issue, I was up much of the night last night fixing mine after I finally figured out exactly what you said that they basically added back all sold items so I just subtracted. But on a 240 variation auction that's at least 30 minutes of fixing. I had to take my store down for a day just avoid even more short sales. Yes they said they'd remove the defect, but a buyer won't care, they came to me for something I showed to have and I shorted them. They probably won't come back. So frustrating.

·3 years agopulled down 171 variation listings that show revision as of may 26. i left up anything with an earlier revision date which was around 30. my total monthly items sold/listed dropped from 50k to 4k. i'm going to manually relist. it will take me weeks. just an insane disgrace on the part of eBay that will never, ever fix this. utterly disgraceful. 23 years on eBay as a top rated seller and they just torpedoed my business!
link32
·3 years agoI'm having this same issue too, how are you filtering to find your variation listings and by a revised date of may 26? This is the most frustrating thing I've encountered on eBay yet.
raskolnikov.s
·3 years agoi'm not filtering per-se. i'm checking each variation listing for the last revision. you can find this information under the "about" tab. look for the lines that look like this:
or just control-f search for "revisions". it will tell you the last time your listing was revised. i've found that anything with a last revision before May 26 should be safe. i've pulled down anything revised on may 26.
geek_barn
·3 years agoThank you!! Can you give a more detailed step by step? I cannot seem to locate this "about tab" you mentioned, nor any revision information. Do you have to click each individual listing or can this be found in bulk? I would need it in bulk. Still waiting to call eBay tomorrow but desperately trying to find my own solution in the meantime. Thank you again!

Look in upper left and you can see what I'm talking about. This is my selling page for a variation listing.
geek_barn
·3 years agoThank you @raskolnikov.s Darn, so there is no way to see if items have been revised in bulk? You have to click each one? Not going to happen for my store, or any one with thousands of listings in their store. This is such an egregious error and absolute NIGHTMARE.
lrv31
·3 years agoI had the same thing happen starting last night on about 25% of my listings. The scary thing about this is what happens next time where its not the item quantity that gets changed but prices! The item you have priced at say $200.00 gets changed to $2.00 or something. Ebay has to take responsibility on stuff like this. Good luck to y'all.
andrealee00
OP3 years agoI think you've brought up the most important point of this whole issue. What was ebay doing programming wise or technology wise that would mess with Seller listings????? And while this is turning out to be a nightmare and could potentially ruin or at least severely damage many Sellers, it's nothing like the damage that would be done if the changes had made to the selling price, like IRV31 says. I agree with the other Sellers that have said ebay needs to be held accountable for this... we hand over 30% of our income in Seller fees for the "privilege" of using ebay as a selling platform. If we paid another hosting site and they f*cked up this bad, we would definitely be getting a refund to keep our business.
misskitty212
·3 years agoI am having this same issue. I have thousands of listings with multiple variations and this is going to cause me so many problems. Every one needs to call ebay to report this issue, as the rep I just spoke with claims he didn't see any other sellers reporting this issue and that I was the first person and then proceeded to suggest maybe it was my third party listing program causing the issue. This thread proves it's definitely ebay.
geek_barn
·3 years agoI spoke with them through e-mail and was told they received many complaints about this, that is is sitewide, and that they are working hard to fix it. That message was received earlier today. I haven't jumped into manually fixing it myself yet, as I am also a seller with 15K+ listings and this has absolutely destroyed my store. Once that seller customer service phone line opens on Tuesday I will be calling and getting some serious answers on this. We need to take this seriously and not just force ourselves into weeks if not months of labor trying to fix this on our own. It is completely insane that this has happened, unacceptable, and something need to be done.
cardthrone
·3 years agoI had this issue happen also, 6000+ listings, going to take me an eternity to fix the quantity on all of them. Ebay will probably do nothing about it, thanks Ebay.
raskolnikov.s
·3 years ago9:30 AM EST and problem still not fixed after hours on the phone with customer service last night. I have approx 25k individual items in hundreds of variation listings that have now doubled to 50k. It has taken me 3+ years to list this inventory and there is simply no way I can fix this myself. Additionally, eBay is pulling down listings since I am now 10k over my limits. I have had this account since 2000. This could very well be the end. I'm at a complete loss as to how to best proceed and eBay is not here to help. Unbelievable.
geek_barn
·3 years agoI am in the same spot. SOMETHING has to be done about this. This is potentially destroying livelihoods and entire businesses. How can this happen and be brushed off as a mistake? I would imagine this is potentially a legal issue. I am aware that it has to do with anyone who was opted in to the EIS program. Any items that have sold through the program were restocked at the quantity which was sold. I've put my store on vacation mode and am giving this until next week to talk to eBay on the phone and get some answers. This is absolutely wrong and unacceptable.
toomuchstuffagain35
·3 years agoYou may as well start fixing them yourself, because based on past experience ebay won't be able to fix them for you.
andrealee00
OP3 years agoI am not sure what you mean by the EIS program. I am a relatively small seller with 84 listings. I use no outside programs or plug-ins to run my listings. I do use the Seller Hub to view my account. The listings that were affected were a random mix. Some hadn't had any sales in a long time... the only similarity I noticed was that the new available quantity appeared to match the total quantity sold over the entire length of the listing's history. But I manually changed those listings and it's been a few days and my memory is getting fuzzy...
kopykatcom
·3 years agoI am so sorry...when I got up I had send an offer to listings I knew were zero...but showed I had 19 available ...I have a small store..fixed in few hrs..I just can not imagine...your store...good luck

·3 years agoI spent 12 hours updating my listings. What I'm going to do moving forward is download the CSV file from reports in the upload templates to back up my inventory everyday after work. This was a nightmare.
nottastrongbad11
·3 years agoSame here. Have had at least two sales so far where people have purchased something that's been out of stock for months! If eBay can't revert this back, this is going to take me hours to fix. And how many disappointed buyers am I going to have to cancel on in the meantime?
cosmetiscents
·3 years agocustomers have been purchasing items that I haven't had in stock for over a year. Had to refund a handful of people today, what a mess my inventories are all messed up. I hope no one leaves me a negative feedback over this ugh!
gametimeheat
·3 years agoSame Issue, on phone for 45 minutes this morning as i had sold an item I definitely don't have which sold a long time ago. Got to looking and sure enough a few of my variation auctions were showing quantities available that had sold almost for the entire previous year(it's Saturday I haven't sat in front of my computer all day to verify all of my auctions). I was told to cancel any errors as out of stock and they would remove any defects. Huge issue b/c any buyer will blame me and think I'm using ebay as a cop out. I may be able to remove negative feedback but I lost that customer most likely forever. Not to mention if they can't revert the quantities back to what they were, it will take me weeks to get my auctions back to normal.
raskolnikov.s
·3 years agomy monthly listing/sold numbers items is now at 50k, approximately 20k more than when i went to sleep last night and 10k+ more than my 40k limit. this is insanity. people are purchasing variations that sold old a year ago! Spent 1 hr with support and they didn't say one word about this. what is going on?!?
gemini_variety
·3 years agoI had this happen a few years ago. When I talked to eBay, I was told that most likely I made too many updates or changes (not just update inventory) to the listings and it went haywire. It was only to the items that I had the variations added and did make several changes to include when my next shipments would come in because of selling out quickly. All of my other listings were good.
Since other people are having the same issue at the same time, this probably isn't the issue, but sharing what caused mine to do this just in case.

People say this has been reported.........but would help if you could verify that sellers should NOT make changes......that the cure, when applied, will reset the accurate quantities.........
toomuchstuffagain35
·3 years agoIt sure didn't get fixed the last time this happened.
ebay just left sellers to try to fix the mess themselves.
andrealee00
OP3 years agoIt definitely sounds like there was no "fix" applied!! I'm seeing a lot of other sellers having problems with wrong quantities AFTER the seller XRAY360 said they spoke with ebay tech on the phone (that should have sent off a warning bell) and that it was going to be fixed. I manually adjusted my wrong quantities and they have stayed correct.
broyer
·3 years agoSo when did this start and when are we able to start fixing things again? Was this just a one time thing where it reset them all and it's done happening or will it continue to happen as things sell?
andrealee00
OP3 years agoI noticed the problem on 5/26 at approximately 8:30pm EST. Of course I couldn't find anything about this so I posted the question to the ebay community. Unfortunately, I took the word of seller XRAY360 that they spoke to a rep who told them it would be fixed and marked that as a solution. I can see by the additional comments that did not happen. I had gone into my listings and manually fixed the wrong quantities.
my5littlemonkeys
·3 years agoI called them and they told me they are not able to access our listings to revert the number and that I have to do it myself.
barkel0202
·3 years agoI had to update 200 listings this morning. Took me 3 hours, as many were multi-variation listings with 50+ variations. All the quantities were wrong. Had to match every listing with my inventory to make sure I wasn't showing a quantity greater than what I had. There will be no way for eBay to go back and restore our prior quantities because (1) some sellers will update on their own and some won't, (2) things may have sold in the interim, and (3) they could create new problems by purposefully changing quantities back without seller knowledge. So this is a colossal headache created by eBay that they likely won't acknowledge or compensate us for. And as others have pointed out, many people will find buyers who pounce on previously out of stock high demand items that suddenly are back in stock . That will lead to cancellations (since the item is actually out of stock), negative feedback, and impacted seller ratings. Thanks eBay.
jamestp365
·3 years agoSeems you worked fast.
I probably have 5000 listings changed I can't imagine how much time and work it would take me to count inventory and change to correct quantities. ebay needs to reset
broyer
·3 years agoI don't think they can reset it.
jamestp365
·3 years agoThe code they implemented added 'amount sold' to qty. Seems code could subtract the 'amount sold' back from qty.
Looks like shipping update was the cause. My revision history for items show changes as:

05:18:04 PM PDT
Shipping Terms
Quantity
Worldwide
barkel0202
·3 years agoYeah I hear you @jamestp365 @andrealee00 . I'm lucky in that it was "only" a couple hundred listings (though many of those have 50-100 variations per listing). Still wasted a good chunk of my holiday weekend. And I have very detailed inventory spreadsheets that helped a ton. I can't even imagine doing this with thousands of listings.
I agree that eBay needs to reset, but as @broyer said, I'm just highly doubtful they can / will. FWIW, I started with my most popular listings and the listings where high demand items had previously sold out.. just to make sure I could reset the sold out variations to zero quickly and avoid disappointing buyers.
You'd think eBay should compensate us for destroying our customers' experience and forcing us to tank part of holiday weekend. For example, how about refund of 50% final value fees for a week (or more)? What's the over/ under on that happening?!? 🤣
broyer
·3 years agoYou know.....this will actually be the one time they actually fix it and reset the quantities to where they should be. I ended all of my affected listings to do a recount especially since I want to try and reopen in a week or so. Some of the listings will probably never go up but they weren't popular in the first place. I'll also be starting with the high demand ones and get to the lesser as I have time.
xray360
·3 years agoI called eBay and they are aware of the glitch. The rep told me to not edit my quantities as they were going to revert it back. It was some type of encryption glitch.

mystic.mana.crystals
·3 years agoIt happened to me too - fixed some of them manually but many of my listings have variations so it is very time consuming to go through and manually correct each and every one. would be nice if ebay could at least verify if we should leave the incorrect quantity alone for now (under the assumption they will be able to revert it back to the correct amount automatically) or if i should try and find time to go through and manually edit my 400+ listings all manually...what a headache!
