Anyone else not able to refund tax to buyer or to give a complete refund?

Just doing a run-of-the-mill refund today for an item destroyed by USPS, and eBay won't allow me to do a full refund that includes the sales tax. Doing the refund without the buyer filing a claim. Never happened before. Is this new, or just a glitch of the day?

Taxes collected on a sale are refunded by ebay. You do nothing. Refund all you can and that is all you are supposed to do.

I know how to do refunds. And I know that eBay isn't issuing refunds today in the way that it should. I'm looking for replies from people having the same issue, not from people who think I don't know how to do refunds, when I do.

@corndogcache If it was an EIS shipment then eBay handles the whole refund after the item reaches the hub safely.

If it is domestic shipment contact customer service

Since this does affect your bottom line this short cut past the bots is okay to use to reach an agent>>

Click this link> https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/getting-paid/getting-paid-items-youve-sold?id=4814

Then Type PAYOUT In the chat bot box on the lower right.

Then AGENT after the bot responds. You might have to repeat those steps.

@stainlessenginecovers I agree however this appears to be an experienced seller that knows how the system works. As we all know eBay has MANY glitches. Maybe this is a new glitch?

But the seller is NOT experienced, or at least experienced in simply 'refunding' a delivered order or they wouldn't be asking about 'refunding sales tax'.

It is all so very simple (and at this time, ebay is Not currently 'glitching')

As a seller myself, I never issued refunds for sales tax because it is never calculated as part of the refund a seller sends.

@corndogcache No, you really don't know anything about refunding. If you want to refund without buyer opening, you go to the order, click 'refund' and then you refund and ebay will refund the taxes...like I said.

and...ebay IS issuing refunds EXACTLY how they should- if you do it right.

That's not a refund. That's an order cancellation. I know how to do both, and I don't need your instructions for either. That's not what I'm looking for. I'm not trying to avoid refunding without buyer opening a case. I'm just trying to do a refund, and eBay refunds aren't refunding orders in their entirety. Thanks, though, for your concern. It's just not helpful.

@corndogcache Yes; I told you 'cancel' vs. refund and that was my mistake.

This is helpful if you would just stop patting yourself on the back of what a wonderfully experienced seller you are...as you apparently are NOT experienced in refunding a delivered order.

And yes, ebay IS refunding in it's entirety. All day, All night.

That's what I've always done whether it was after the buyer opened a case or before they opened a case.

I believe that when you issue a total refund eBay refunds the sales tax and sometimes your fees.

@glenvonnie Just an FYI: for the past couple years, they refund the Ebay fees and sales tax on WHATEVER amount you refund. Refund $100 of a $300 order and ebay will refund $14 (approx) in fees (so you only refund $86) and they also refund whatever the sales tax is on $100.
