Android App - Camera Function for taking Listing Pics -- Issues
Anyone else experience this new update/change in the past few days?
Basically, I'll provide my take on what has happened, but I don't feel I know how to put this into words properly, because ... I don't know I feel whoever messed with the Android app camera function just absolutely took everything the smart-phone carrying population takes for granted when using their phone cameras and threw it into the wood-chipper. Like every simple basic concept that we all have come to expect in the past 18 years of smart phone existence just disappeared into the ether with this "upgrade" or change. How did someone accomplish just a massive screw up and massive step backwards?
BEFORE The camera function in the app used to work perfectly fine ... It just ... worked as you would expect it to in today's day and age. What was on the screen was the image, and it "understood" if you rotated the camera horizontally, that you wanted the image to be as it is on the screen at time of picture, you know, right side up when you're done taking the pic, like it understood you intentionally rotated your phone 90 degrees and weren't intending on getting a "sideways" pic.
NOW there are so many goofy issues. First, for whatever reason, it appears there are huge darkened/shaded areas roughly like 1/3 of the screen either on top/bottom or left/right depending on the orientation you are holding your phone. The center is clear, it almost encourages you to only use/fill that area for your photo, like don't stick stuff in the darkened/shaded area. It's a strange thing that seems to serve zero purpose and confuses me every time I experience it ... THEN I just compared phone camera app to eBay app camera function. I held my phone in the same position and toggled between Andorid Camera & eBay Camera, ... eBay's camera function's default 1.0x Zoom is taking 1.0x Zoom pics but is NOT showing 1.0x zoom on screen when setting up the shot... It's more like 1.6x-1.7x Zoom ... That means what is being shown on screen is not the entirety of the final image product. The camera still takes a 1.0x zoom image, but you're being shown a zoomed in view at 1.6-1.7x zoomed in, so you're literally seeing only a fraction of the final product image. So you'll get a lot more "background" in your final pic and have to crop a lot out. LASTLY Every single image I take horizontally (every single image I take) ends up sideways when it's uploaded to the listing draft. So I spend extra time now rotating every single image on top of cropping out all of the extra background i didn't ask for when taking the pic.
I'm doing 20-40 listings or more at a time, with 6-10 or more pics, I'm taking hundreds of pics. That is a lot of time wasted rotating pics and doing additional unnecessary cropping, and on top of the wasted time is lower quality images.
I never thought I'd experience this but how did eBay mess up their camera function so awfully. I guess I'll take pics w/ phone camera app and use "upload" function via the app but it was nice and clean being able to use the camera function within the app listing tool as it didn't require any extra steps in the process.
Can someone please put the camera function back to the way it was (NORMAL)

·5 months agoJust adding that I am also having the same issue -
eBay app - Android
Image view - item is centered - when I take the picture, it is zoomed WAY out -
Definitely an ebay app issue and I have no way to fix it - I am now zooming way in to take my photos and still have to crop

·5 months agoJust replying to confirm that I'm having the same issue. It IS kinda hard to describe but yes the app starts zoomed in and I'm unable to fully zoom out all the way and the border of the picture when looking at the screen is different than actual photo that's produced. I have to use the native camera app and import the photos into ebay which is very time consuming compared to just taking the photos directly through the ebay app.

·5 months agoIt's so bad, eBay please fix this... My work around for now has been using my phones built in camera to save time cropping and flipping - but switching between apps is still cumbersome and should be unnecessary..
