All item descriptions being blocked by a Please Verify Yourself (Captcha) prompt
Well this is a new one. I can't view any item descriptions on any pages. I'm on a desktop computer using Chrome - same computer I've been using for the past 5 years or so to browse ebay. Same results even if I try using an incognito window. Same results on multiple listings. Then when I click all the boxes next to the correct photos, the "I am a human" goes to a green checkbox, but it stops there and the description still won't load.

·3 years agoVery frustrating and it's happening to me when I use Google browser, I tried Firefox browser and no problem at all, how many buyers who use Google Chrome will have the same problem and not know that Google browser doesn't let them see the description?

·3 years agoI had no problems viewing my listings description from my laptop at home this morning but then I drove a few miles to a nearby city where my inventory was stored at had the Captcha error prompt the entire 2 hours I was there. I then drove back home and now I'm able to view everything just fine again. So either they fixed the problem or it's dependent on your location. The good news about that is if it's dependent on location some people will still be able to view your description and place orders based on it.

·3 years agoSame here.
My apologies to ebay sellers, but I need to order an item today and that means my business is going to Amazon because I can't read the descriptions on ebay to know what I'm ordering. Hopefully some of you are in both places.

·3 years agoYou might want to give it one last try now. I just refreshed a problem listing and the problem has now gone away (at least for the examples that were malfunctioning for me before).

·3 years agoToo bad ALL CSRs don't know of this glitch. Wasted a lot of time today for three stores doing it.

·3 years agoI am having the same exact problem. And I have been using Chrome as well for a long time. Verify I am not a robot each time I want to view my own description listing. Once I verify I am not a robot, the screen goes no- where.

·3 years agoim having the same issue , just reported it to a CSR on the phone . I asked the CSR to look up an item ( same one i'm looking at ) see stated that she did not have any issues . I then went to to community and explained that many others are having the same issue. She stated she is reporting it .

·3 years agoI called them and they are aware of the situation and are working to resolve it, no telling how fast.
this will impact sales in the meantime

·3 years agoSame problem. I see it on my Mac with Safari where I'm logged into eBay and also Chrome where I'm not logged in, and also on my work PC in Chrome and Edge.
All of the captchas have been castles and stadia.

·3 years agoI am having the same issue. I was hoping for a good weekend of sales. Guess that's not happening. ☹ï¸

·3 years agoMy question is who isnt authorized to view a description? arent those available without logging in anyway?

·3 years agoI have the same issue - can't view my own listing descriptions or anyone else's, although I get the green check mark after doing the captcha. I'm with the poster above - why in the world have this in a description anyway?! 🙄

I am going to tear my hair out if I have to identify another sports stadium or castle....trying to update descriptions....
my sanity thanks you in advance.....
kyle@ebay
Hey @monica-sells I hope your hair is still intact! Our developers are aware of this issue and have opened ALERT14719 for it. We have gone ahead and updated the tech board as well so you can keep an eye on it.

·3 years agoThis reaked havoc on my auctions today with items selling below average price, will I be penalized if i cancel those sales and will i be protected from negative feedback?

·3 years agoWhy are they even placing captchas on the description? Why???? This is insane. Please ebay, just load the page without this unnecessary "security" nonsense.

OP3 years agoGlad I'm not the only one.
Not glad that I probably won't be selling anything today since nobody can read my descriptions.

·3 years agoI get this same error, tried from different browsers and even remote computers, and I still get the exact same certification; even if I pass the verification, you still cant load the page. It seems to be for several sellers. Wonder what they broke this time and how long before they fix it.

·3 years agosame here...across 3 accounts with 3 different browsers

·3 years agoHappy Friday!
Always nice to see what the Thursday update brings.
I have it too and even after verifying it stays on the listing.
It blocks all the sellers description and information.
As a seller this is very concerning and as a buyer there is a lot left out that is important
patriot_bearing_supply
·3 years agoSame. I could not view my sold item listings to fulfill the orders (I have literally tens of thousands of listings in a warehouse setting and the bin location in the listing). I was finally able to look it up on the mobile app to fulfill the orders, but this is extremely tedious. You can click on the matching pictures on the CAPTCHA, the check mark shows up, but the page does not change. I had to do a CAPTCHA just to post here, but it worked.
klhmdg
·3 years ago@patriot_bearing_supply I have locations in my listings too and I did sell similar to get the locations.
Now to go in and cancel those ... LOL

·3 years agoSame problem. I pass the captcha test and still can't see the item details. Viewing on Microsoft Edge.
Tried clearing cache, browsing history, etc. which didn't work.
At least I'm not the only one!

·3 years agoI can confirm that; I was just writing up my own post about this just now. Your screenshot matches what I see when I try to read the description in the new listing 266280569776.
I swear, this site gets more bonkers every day.

·3 years agoOdd, I am not getting a Captcha or having problems viewing item descriptions in Firefox or Chrome or Edge on a Windows 10 machine, even after signing out and signing back in.

·3 years agoI was able to view the page via your link normally using the eBay app on my phone, but the desktop view remains blocked. (Windoze 10 box, using Chrome)
On my first re-test just now, I actually got a gray screen and unhappy face, with an error message saying that the Captcha could not run, but then a second attempt brought the original problem back again.

·3 years agoI guess I'm just unable to tell the difference between Sports Stadium and Castle, no matter how many times I take. Thanks, ebay!
