Looking for a postcard printer or publisher from early 1900s with the logo RRL (probably German)
The image shows a pair of Jews, presumably from Hungary in 1903. I have seen a copy posted from Poland, so the printer / publisher may also be Austria Hungary or Poland.
I have not found the information

·8 months agoI looked through the obvious websites (Postcard Album, undividedbackpostcard dawt com, etc) and my books and didn't see anything. Some of the small printer marks where the lower letter is the city.
I think your best bet is following the set - off the top of my head I think you could contact House of Zion, the auction house; if its judiaca they know about it.

OP8 months agoActually this is not being sold by House of Zion. In my experience House of Zion have little knowledge of postcards.

·8 months agoThank you. My quickly arrived conclusions. Human conclusions meaning subject/prone to error - but there is no gain w/o pain. So I am willing to pursue a possibly painful path in search of rewarding info. My conclusions (I take full responsibility for them) are derived solely from info big helpfully provided (in the form of the links shown).
It is not RRL - it is something else (the R's are NOT identical) and would offer explanations as to why the mark is unidentified (as of today) in collector circles (because researchers are looking for the incorrect letters).
As suspected, backs can offer clues as can fronts of postcards. In this instance one card pictured front and back in the link (#607 printed on front) has a red rubber stamp on the back in a language unfamiliar to me. Maybe "russian"/Cyrillic (sp?) but hinting at country of postcard use/printer location, helping to narrow down the possible countries of origin. The backs display numerous different languages, basically highlighting a geographical area of "eastern Europe" as a major (and basically already known) geographical area "hint." I would like to narrow down a long list of possible geographical location/area "hints" of printer locations to a shorter list as a starting point in my research.
I freely admit to having NO expert level knowledge of postcards (in general). Just a collector's/hobbyist's interest I have pursued for over 40 years now. What i do have is intense curiosity, a passion for explaining "mysteries," and an ability to problem solve (using appropriate tools i possess).
This one sounds like fun, so i am giving it a shot. And will post here in the future if any (what i deem useful) info is discovered. toodles - c*me

·8 months agoSlightly off topic and opinionated - but it seems to me that the address side of a postcard is just as important in identification as the image side, often offering clues and hints (whether postmarked or not).
PS - i would also consider ARL, those 2 "R" are not identical
