Depressing postcards on eBay
Too often, I come upon a postcard listing on eBay that just makes me feel sad.
Listed as a “Buy it now†for $199. Condition - “ Minor wear and tear on front†See photos.
Card probably has a value of $20-30.

·7 months agoVintage Halloween greeting cards were one of the things I remember on numerous Youtube 'BOLO for eBay reselling' type videos when I first started selling here. I guess those videos have the potential of fetching the creator more money from views on Youtube than they could make with the limited number of such BOLO items that they can find and resell themselves. But the problem it so often causes is viewers doing exactly as instructed, being on the lookout, finding those items, and flooding eBay with them, so that scarcity is no longer part of the demand equation, and value drops drastically.
The seller of this^ card probably saw one of those videos and thought they found gold, even with the damage, and they don't know how to research actual recent comps.

·7 months agoThe sale prices of certain Halloween cards the past couple of months have been outstanding. If a good copy was $2000, wouldn't this be worth $199? Not to me, but maybe to someone. Personally I'd auction it starting at 99 cents.

OP7 months agoWell, cards that sell in an auction setting at a high price are rare and highly sought.
This card is neither. It shows up fairly regularly on eBay

It is solely suitable as a placesaver in a collection or for use by a scrapbooker.
No way I would have that card in my store. And I have some placesavers in my store.

You looked, right?
So did I, but I'm not into collecting those types of damaged items regardless of perceived value.

OP7 months agoWhen I see a card in that condition, listed for such a price, I do NOT want to see the sellers other cards. No thanks. Hard pass.😬😒
With the mass exodus of postcard sellers and buyers on eBay over the last few years, this type of listing really doesn’t help.

I buy and sell depressing postcards showing pre Nazi period antisemitism.
I would say that the correct title for this topic would be dubious items or sellers
