This payout was sent to your bank account instead because of some error on your card. Really, eBay?
Tired of eBay dragging their feet on paying me, so I caved and signed up for the $2 fee for instant payments. Of course, they drag their feet for two days "for security reasons" when I gave them my debit card number. Now I wake up today and they've sent my payment to my bank with "This payout was sent to your bank account instead because of some error on your card." Why can't eBay just pay sellers and not jerk us around? They also love to do payouts on Friday, so I won't get paid until Monday now.
I have an Ally bank account, which is 100% legit. Do they have a problem with them? I'm so tired of them finding reasons to hold my money. I've been selling on eBay for 25 years, I'm a top rated seller and have 100% positive feedback. What more can I do to get them to trust me? A multi-billion dollar company who worries about low dollar payouts. Give me a break!

OP4 months agoUpdate. Okay, they sent my $150 to my bank account the other day because there was some error on my card. My next payout for $37 was an instant payment, so they took $2 out and I got the money right away. Maybe it's straightened out, but I don't know why! We'll see what happens on my next sale. Thank you for all the suggestions, even if I didn't agree with your explanation! You were all just trying to help me and I know that...

·4 months ago@freebirdtim just a heads up, payment holds can still vary depending upon the amount of the sale and a dozen other reasons.

OP4 months agoThis comment is just ridiculous. You're either a plant or think you'll get somewhere by sucking up to eBay. Be thankful? So kind of eBay to eventually pay me MY money? Oh brother. You do remember when eBay was forcing Paypal on everyone a few years ago, don't you? The only good part of that was getting paid immediately, which is how it should be.
EBay is not paying me a wage, they're paying me for merchandise I sold with the money they took from the buyer. Sellers should be paid immediately. I can't walk into Walmart and grab something and tell them I'll pay them in 5 or 6 days! Doesn't work that way. No way should eBay get their cut and the buyer receive their merchandise before I get paid.

·4 months agoDo you…do you think Walmart gets the funds from credit card payments in their accounts immediately? They do in fact have to wait for the money, just like any non-cash transaction.

·4 months agoSo here's the thing...
Years ago I walked into a B&M bank with a check made out to: CASH
You with me?
Where it says Pay to the Order Of (where you'd put the name of the person or company) it said CASH
It's a check made out to CASH
This is done in certain transactions to protect anonymity.
Can you guess what the bank wanted, in order for me to actually get cash for that check?
Spoiler!
They wanted a state issued ID, with a photo, and all my information.
I got into a huge argument with them.
It's not right, what is the point of a check made out to CASH if I have to present ID, that is STUPID might as well make the check out to me personally! Back and forth, back and forth...
The bank claimed "what if I wasn't the person that was supposed to cash this check?"
Huh?
Like, what if I am not the original recipient of the check but I merely found it on the street?
I said "same if I found a $100 bill on the street, cash is cash and this check is made out to CASH"
Back and forth, back and forth...
TL;DR...
Ultimately if I wanted my cash for that check however, I had to present ID.
Similar to your situation, stomping my feet didn't do a thing.

·4 months agoA check made out to CASH is not a bearer bond. You can either deposit it in your checking account or show some ID in case the check later bounces back as stolen. Basically the bank has no recourse if they pay it out in cash to an anonymous recipient. (If you have an account with them then they know who you are. Otherwise...?)
In this case it sounds like the OP has a different situation. He needs to provide Ebay with his checking account number so they can deposit the funds. Giving them his debit card number is not the same thing.
broto_64
·4 months agoWow no kidding, it's called an analogy and I realize it's not 100% the same thing, I said it to point out that no matter how much you argue they will not change their ways, understand now?
freebirdtim
OP4 months agoThey want my debit card for instant payments. Since they seem to have an issue with the card, they went back to my original payment method, the obsolete transfer to my bank account method. So instead of getting paid on Friday, I'm now getting paid on Monday with a bank transfer. I never said they were holding my money.

OP4 months agoEBay plant? Is that you, Sandy Purins? You're missing the point. If they want to tack on yet another fee ($2), then yes, I want my money right away. What part of that don't you understand?
duffy4444
·4 months agoStomping your feet and throwing a mini-tantrum because your money is not instantly available will get you nowhere. Try pulling that on an employer who may be delaying your paycheck for a week or two or even longer, and see where it gets you. Perhaps the unemployment line?
When I was self-employed as a contractor in high tech companes like HP, Oracle and Symantec, some of my client companies paid me net 30. I adapted.
Accept > Adjust > Adapt. That's what the successful seasoned sellers do here.
You can too. Stop complaining and be thankful you got paid as quickly as you did.
Perspective, my friend... perspective.
Cheers Duffy
PS: Being here 25 years and having 100% positive feedback is totally irrelevant to your complaint. Everybody needs to adapt by aligning themselves to eBay's process if they want to sell here and get paid for it.

·4 months agoThis post doesn't make any sense. You are claiming that they are holding your money and at the same time complaining that they sent the money to your bank account.
So are they holding your money or did they send it to your bank account?

·4 months agoI thought in order to get paid to a debit card that card had to be linked to a bank account. If so, then it doesnt matter, once its in your back account your debit card has access to it....am i wrong?

OP4 months agoAlly is a real bank. Never had any problems with them. They cover me for up to $100 if I mess up and overdraw my account. No overdraft fees and no hassles. Great bank.
As far as the guy talking about "saving skill", I rarely have financial issues, but tax time can be tough. Living in RI is also a drain. Sky high electric bill, $500 a month for heating oil and way too high property taxes. Add to that my girlfriend of 38 years dying last November and I'm in a financial pickle right now. Got used to her paying half the bills and helping me when I got behind on my bills...
iamalwaysright
·4 months agoI guess you can’t say that anymore. 😉. @itsjustasprain has a good point. A debit card’s funding source is a bank account. In your OP you said eBay sent the funds to your bank account. Isn’t that where your money goes as debit cards don’t hold a separate balance from their funding bank account source?
What other source would the funds be sent to? Or is this one of them gift card debit cards?

·4 months agoIt's a digital bank.
The traditional banks work better for Managed Payments.
a_c_green
·4 months agoI assume that a digital bank doesn't have any bricks-and-mortar locations, but aside from that, if they're issuing you a debit card, they must have some kind of checking account behind that, wouldn't they? I mean, where else would they keep the funds for debit purchases?
If the actual account has a different number than what's on the debit card (which I would assume is true, since otherwise you'd have to close the entire account if the debit card was lost), then I would need to give eBay the account number for deposits, not the debit card number.

·4 months agoidk... I have my payouts set to once a month, when the money comes that's when it arrives.
Developing a saving skill helps, I would never pay $2 to have that same money faster. In fact I see that as a predatory move which sadly ends up targeting those it will hurt the most.

·4 months agoI must be missing something here... the funds for my debit card (I mean - whatever I buy with the debit card) come from my checking account. eBay deposits into my checking account.

What type of "dragging their feet" are you referring to? If you had payment/transaction holds, for instance, signing up for Express Payouts doesn't change that, and if the issue was with the ACH transaction to your bank taking a long time, it might but the bank might just have issues with that, not eBay. Without knowing more about what the actual issues have been, it's hard to even suggest what's going on.
freebirdtim
OP4 months agoThe reason I opted for instant payouts is eBay always seems to initiate payouts on Friday, so I don't get paid until Monday. I sell something on Wednesday, but don't get paid until Monday. And if Monday is a holiday, I don't get paid until Tuesday. Why eBay can't just pay sellers right away with no extra $2 fee is ridiculous.
To quote the movie "Rounders":
"Pay him. Pay that man his money!"
iamalwaysright
·4 months agoWrong. It’s actually “Pay that meeyan his money.” 😀

·4 months agoI have yet to figure out why people plaster the boards with issues of being paid. I am a minor seller. I do not sell frequently across the year. But, within 48 hours of shipment I have a payout initiated to my bank like clockwork. Never had issues everyone else runs into. The Bank Account is the legal default payment for tax law purposes. I would not be surprised if they are just going the path of least resistance.
Either I happened to do something others have not properly or what is involved in the transaction just might be the cause for delays, having been listed on the Retailers Inventory of At Risk Resale Merchandise Index that covers all the Rioting, Looting & Pillaging the "Peaceful Protestors" have been doing for over a decade now. Organized Retail Theft is a major issue.

·4 months agoThey did it to me and I'm only selling a piece of artwork and I also have 100% feedback. Sometimes its hard to get thru to a person at help desk so I just came looking to find my own answer. Glad to hear you have had no problems. Other people do and it has nothing to do with political events going on in our country.
