This is ridiculous....
So, I sold two items on the same day. Jan 8th. One item they have the funds on hold until the 8th of Feb Because it was over $1000 . ( FYI I am NOT a new seller, thats a whole different issue in itself. Ive been buying and selling on ebay for 12 years. I know what they are showing, but that's not my entire history. And this is the first time they've pulled this on me. When I have sold several items of equal and greater value in the past this was not an issue. ) Anyway, that aside, the first item was received by the other buyer. I wound up having to issue a partial return. (Yet another issue in itself where ebay called me a liar for telling the objective truth in the description.) Anyway, I did not receive the remainder of the funds for that first item. Those funds were released on the 15, and it said "Your funds are now available" but there was nothing in my account. No payment ID....Nothing. So going back and fourth with customer service for a week, hearing incorrect reasons why I had not received those funds and calling them on it, I finally got through to the payment dept. Here is what they told me. That their fees for BOTH items exceeded what I was owed on the first item and they deducted that from my payout account and as a result has put me into the negative. (Remember, there still has not been a payment ID issued.) And that I have to wait for the funds for the second item to clear before they will reimburse me for the first item. So if that now put me in the negative on their books, then according to this monkey math procedure, when I finally receive those funds that amount will be deducted from the total amount i receive from the other item to put me at an even balance, essentially stealing those funds away from me. I asked what if I had only sold one item that day and the other item a few days later? Silence. I then asked why was I told a week ago by customer service that those funds would be available to me the following day and had the "Your funds are now available" come up? There was silence yet again. So how can you ding me for the funds from a sale of one item sold, for the fees for a completely different item, sold to a completely buyer? Then put me in the red on your books. Which not only removes those funds owed to me for my item in the end, but would also ding me from any future funds if I sold something else before the 8th of Feb. Why cant they get their fees from an item when the funds are released for that item? Thats how its always been for me and thats how their policy has it written out. I just read and re-read it to make sure.

·1 year agoTrust and safety measures have necessarily changed as the size of internet marketplace sites have increased.
Holds are more common, and more sophisticated algorithms built to determine whether the patterns of an Ebay seller have changed.
Many good Ebay member's accounts have been hijacked and used for fraudulent activity.
Sellers who have steady sales within a similar price range tend to avoid holds more successfully than sellers who sell in fits and starts.

·1 year agoMy takeaway from this story is I am surprised ebay didn't ding the OP's bank account for the excess amount of fees.
"So how can you ding me for the funds from a sale of one item sold, for the fees for a completely different item, sold to a completely buyer?
Funds all go into your one account, like when you deposit a check and it bounces and they take the bounce fee from your other check deposits....
One of the things I keep reading about in these problem stories is "partial return" (I think the OP meant partial refund) - it seems to be an issue. But the story is kind of vague and hard to understand without actual numbers - what was the "partial return"?
"for items that sell for $1000 or more, they started holding the funds for 30 days."
They sure don't promote this as a feature, right? They always tell you to ship then hold back the funds.

·1 year agoOn this account, you've only sold 8 items, so you are considered a new seller.
As far as fee's, they've always come out of avaliable funds first.
A few years ago, for items that sell for $1000 or more, they started holding the funds for 30 days.

·1 year agoIf there is any lapse in selling, eBay will impose the hold on funds again. It's often 30 days or less. Selling a number of high value items in a short time span can also trigger it. Just have to wait it out.
