These Selling Fees Are Abusive
Just adding to the long list of posts stating the same in hopes the company will actually recognize they are slamming the group that put them in a position to have shareholders to care about in the first place.
Seriously, you charge 12.9% on the tax?, really? How are you guys ok with this? Your charging us cause the gov taxes our transactions?
Didn't even realize it was up to 12.9% now. Thought it would've been more advantageous after the paypal fees were eliminated, but noooo. Couldn't let your sellers benefit, right?
Yeah, you have the market, the eyeballs and no one is twisting my arm to sell here. Haven't sold in a few years, just had a transaction. Now i'm stewing about what I'm actually getting for an item due to your hand deep in my pocket.
I'll probably end up listing more, but, you guys are taking complete advantage of people in the guise of providing a service. Your rep said "inflation" LoL. listings are more expensive now! gimme a break!
Hope you guys reevaluate this in the future and actually start catering a little more to sellers in the form of actually letting us keep a higher % of our money.
This is a disgrace Ebay.
Now that I got that off my chest!
Have a good day everyone!!!

·2 years agoWhen I lived and worked in a sales tax state, I resented the sales tax I collected on millions of dollars in sales.
I was not paid to collect sales tax, I was coerced to. Modern day slavery. When we sold enough, we were moved from quarterly payments, and had to pay tax on our customers purchases where they had not yet paid their invoices.
Although I do not like paying fees or commissions to anyone, I feel I have to congratulate Ebay for monetizing sales tax collection.

Yes. eBay is serious about the fees they charge to sellers.
You have a concern about the fee that eBay charges on sales tax on a recent transaction.
Let's say you sold something for, oh, I don't know, let's just say $777.00. Nice round number.
And you did not charge your buyer any postage charges.
We don't know what state your buyer lives in but I will assume the buyer pays a 6.5% tax rate.
6.5% of $777 is $50.50.
Just to focus on the $50.50 sales tax, the eBay 12.9% fee on $50.50 is $6.50.
eBay "keeps" $6.50 from your profit.
What does eBay do with that $6.50?
Well, they save it up in a couple of big jars, along with the fees on every other buyer's sales taxes, and at the end of the year they have a gigantic pizza party. Three slices of pizza for every employee.
No. Not really.
eBay sends the sales taxes to the appropriate states where the buyers live. They have to keep track of the proper states' documentation for sending that money. They have to be sure they don't miss any deadlines.
Personally, if I sold a $777.00 Thing and eBay kept, as their fee for properly taking care of the sales taxes, only $6.50, I'd be thrilled.

Well I am glad you are thrilled by the pure fact that someone just does their government mandated job and THEN charges you a fee.
I would love to be the restaurant that charges you tax for dinner, then claim that to "take care of the taxes of course" and then charge you an additional fee.
I can tell you never had a business.

The OP is still listing and selling on eBay. Presumably, recovered from their shock at the fees, which are now somewhat higher than they were on 07/25/22.

·2 years agoI can guarantee you that everything is included in the menu prices, including card processing fees and the costs associated with bookkeeping and doing all the tax related work.
Why do you think a restaurant charges $4+ for a cup of coffee that costs 12 cents to make?

·2 years agoYes, old thread
eBay makes sure the money they collect goes into the right pockets and they don't do it for free.
That restaurant you speak of charges you sales tax and the payment processor the restaurant uses to process the debit and credit cards charges the restaurant a fee on the full amount put on the card.
