The Real Reason Ebay holds your payment 3 days after delivery.
So I may be late to the party on this information, but i just found out the actual reason eBay holds our money for 3 additional days after the shipment has been delivered to the buyer. Prior to today, I thought they held the money to give the buyer time to inspect their items to assure that it is in fact what they purchased and that it was described properly, etc.... Basically, I thought buyers got 3 days to make sure they didn't get scammed. I had no problem with this and agree with it 100%. Unfortunately, this isn't the case at all. I reached out to eBay support today after I was notified that something I sold was delivered, and the buyer left a very nice and positive feedback review about the item. I asked them if they could go ahead and release my funds since the item was delivered and the buyer was clearly very pleased with their purchase. Am I the only one here who thinks this is a reasonable request? Please let me know if I am in the wrong and share your views or comments. Anyways, They informed me that they would not release my funds any earlier than scheduled. So I asked why not and explained my reasoning and told them that If My own business bought something and I had clear proof it was recieved and that it was in fact what I had actually ordered then I would Pay for the item without delay. That is how trasactions are correctly made at my business. How about yalls? I was told that my funds are being held because basically I had a small and basic ebay account. My account status was not high enough to grant me the privelage of recieving my money immediatly after completing all of ebays various verification tasks and procedures required when selling items on ebay. I did not know that i had to reach some kind of higher account status to be able to have the right to access the money that is rightfully mine. Ebay doesnt wait to get their selling fees, promotion fees , and all of the other fees we pay to have the privelige to be able to sell on their platform. So why do they think it is ok to keep our money from us for a single second longer than it takes us to verify that we have followed all the rules and procedures they require? I personally am very upset about this and do not believe this is how professionals should be conduction business. Please let me know if you think I am wrong here and share your thoughts on this. I really want to know if everyone is just ok with this ebay policy.

·3 months agoThat's right I sold items and they put a home on both even though the package was delivered and no complaints I feel after that there is no reason at all to hold the funds a second longer im sure this happens to hundreds of people they do it so they can make money off the interest while the money sits in their account like they don't have enough money already ebay talks about scammers when they scam everyone of us no lie

·3 months agoThree days? I would have been ecstatic with 3 days.
I haven't been on the platform in a year or two, but I have many sales and perfect feedback. I sold an item, oh, I dunno, a month ago? That sounds right, and they are holding funds. My payment is daily, purchaser received and gave excellent feedback. My funds are being held because...they're in the Straight of Hormuth? No idea. I'm going to FB marketplace because at least there i know how I'm getting screwed.

·3 months agothe plain and simple part is that ebay makes it crystal clear in their user agreement that they can/will/may hold funds for up to 180 days. AT THERE SOLE DISCRETION.
That being said, your funds being held are because of the algorithm, you can eventually get to a point as a seller where "holds" are virtually never placed on your account. It takes time and consistency.
this is nothing new.... It applies to all sellers new or old

·3 months agoI just think eBay tries every possible way to hold your payment; it really doesn't matter how long you have been selling on eBay. I really hate that. From now on I will sell more using PayPal off eBay if possible. Every time I sold something high price, then eBay jumped in and changed the payout to 3 days after delivery.

·7 months agoYou sold nothing in December...which can sometimes 'hit' you as a infrequent seller.
Need to sell items 'every month' so there are no holds on funds.
Your idea doesn't work on 'holds'...I ship a lot without any tracking on them.
And customer service reps are not very reliable with answers as to why this or that.

Unfortunately, you wouldnt be the first seller to receive positive feedback with your buyer receiving your item, then three weeks later have the buyer open an item not as described case against you. Since Ebays 30 day MBG is enforced here, Ebay prefers that any refunds come out of your pocket, not theirs. Its no longer possible for new sellers with no recent selling history to take the money and run, which is a good thing.

OP7 months agoClearly I'm not going to get a productive conversation from this post as I hoped for. So Im Leaving Stainlessenginecovers here to harass the next unfortunate soul who posts about something he doesn't like. God bless you, buddy. I really hope you find something that turns that frown upside down and switches all that hate you have inside to love. No one should be this hateful to complete strangers. Please consider talking to someone. You obviously have some unresolved issues that you're projecting onto strangers, and it's not healthy at all.

Or maybe you're not hearing what you hoped for. For what it's worth, sellers here have empathy, but you won't find sympathy. "Productive conversation" is all you've received... we just don't sugar coat it. Stick around for the knowledge. Hang in there.

·7 months agoFirst you asked if you are 'wrong' , so I responded you were and why.
Then you said it was your 'right' and I explained it was not.
True and Straight to the Point is NOT 'hateful'.
Hopefully you get better at deflecting.

·7 months agoYou are wrong. The CSR's you spoke to were wrong (as always). Anyone you speak to on the phone does not know the systems and has no ability to do anything. Nothing. They can't 'release' your money even if they said they would.
There is an 'up to 30 day hold' on all sales for sellers that are infrequent sellers. ebay has a 30 day money back guarantee so they want to hold your money for up to that amount of time- then they will release, 1,2,10 days later).

OP7 months agoI spoke to 2 different Managers on the phone to make sure I understood completely what I was being told. So if I am wrong, then that is another negative point against ebay policy and procedures. and for the 30-day hold on all sales comments you made. This is the first time I have ever heard that. If this is the case, then don't you think a ebay manger would know this and have the responsibility to inform a seller on their platform when that seller is asking questions and trying to understand their hold policies? I'm sure you thought your comment made you sound cool and superior, but it really doesn't. If you could get off that high horse. You would clearly see that I'm a loyal customer of eBay for quite a long time now, who is just trying to wrap his head around ebays holding policies and understand why it is the way it is. That's why I asked for others' opinions. I most definitely didn't ask for snide remarks and your superiority complex sir, But reguardless I still wish you the best obviously you need something to make yourself feel better and its ok i don't mind that you used me to do it. Im always happy to help those less fortunate ðŸ˜

·7 months agoI doubt it was managers you were talking to, probably just the next phone rep inline.
The 30 day hold is mentioned in the payment policy which is avaliable for anyone to read.

·7 months agoYeah, I can live with a couple days. If I needed cash that fast I'd sell locally anyway.
warmikey89
OP7 months agoOh Im sorry if i led you to belive i was angry because i needed the money. That's not the case. I'm angry about the policy. Accessing your own funds isn't a perk you give to your best clients. It's our Right.

·7 months agoThe only 'right' you have is to not use the site, or use it and in doing so you are automatically agreeing to the 1000 page 'terms of conditions'/policies. 'Holds' are part of what you agreed to.

OP7 months agoYou are correct about that 100%. I didn't say they broke policy or my rights. Just stated that what i thought previously was incorrect and that I didnt agree with it and I didnt understand the reasoning behind it and so far I still havent gotten any answers or comments explaining why the policy makes sense. All ive gotten is you. Someone who clearly wants to argue about something today. Im sorry to inform you that im not looking for an arguement . All i'm trying to get is answers and opinions about the policy.
