Sold item, delivery is confirmed, eBay is holding payment until delivery is confirmed
Summary: mjc510 expressed frustration over eBay's handling of payments for infrequent sellers, noting that despite confirmed delivery, eBay stated it could not confirm delivery and held funds. Although aware of the policy for holding payments, mjc510 highlighted the inconsistency in communication and the lack of clarity from eBay. Other participants explained that eBay holds payments for safety reasons, with timelines ranging up to 30 days, especially for high-risk categories like electronics. mjc510 remained concerned about eBay's contradictory information and the inability to contact them for explanations.
I mean, it's literally all right here on one page. Delivered August 14. And then in the lower right "we could not confirm delivery." What kind of insane eBay incompetence is this? If eBay wants to sit on my money and collect interest for two weeks they can just say "ooh, you're an infrequent seller, so we have a two week delay before payout." And in fact when I was completing the sale, eBay said "because you're an infrequent seller, we'll hold payment until delivery is confirmed." Fine. Delivery is confirmed. It's right there. eBay has the tracking number that shows delivery. What is this?

·2 weeks agoSame thing happened to me. I’ve been a member for 24 years. Although the majority of my 271 transactions were as a buyer, the feedback left for me as a buyer AND seller of similar items should be decent indicator of my integrity. My issue is also regarding the “change up” of payout terms AFTER the sale concluded, with confirmation of delivery. I initially was told it would be 1-3 days for payout, after confirmation of delivery. Somehow, it evolved into a one week hold. The buyer sent message thanking me, however it appears he never leaves feedback. I’ve read all their reasons for extending holds. None apply here. I, too, will survive for the week, but I shouldn’t have to! As far as I’m concerned, the only policy/guideline followed is “If you choose to list on EBay, we will hold your funds for an indefinite amount of time, regardless of what you are told at time of listing”!

·3 weeks agoIt appears you are an "infrequent" seller. Ebay might hold the payment for up to 30 days. But according to the message ebay sent you they are only going to hold the payment until 22 August.
This was for the iphone SE 3rd gen? In the case of electronics like this since they are a high issue category ebay will almost certainly hold funds for a while.

OP3 weeks agoAgain -- and I think I made this point clearly in my post -- I have no problem with eBay holding funds per its policies. However the message given to me when I completed the sale, and the message clearly stated on the screen that I showed, says that payment will be held until delivery is confirmed. And it literally says right there that delivery is confirmed.

·3 weeks agoDelivered on a Friday; takes a day or two (work days) for systems to complete.
Chill out.

·3 weeks agoFor new, infrequent and returning sellers, ebay will hold funds up to 30 days even when delivery has taken place.
Since the buyer still has 30 days from the date of delivery/receipt to open a claim, ebay likes to be sure the funds will be there is the transaction goes south.
August 22 is just 6 days away. You WILL get the money!

OP3 weeks agoI don't doubt that I will get the money. And waiting six days, or two weeks, or 30 days is not a huge problem for me, for this small amount of money. But I do have a problem with eBay very clearly stating what it is going to do, and then doing something totally different, and then showing contradictory information about what is the reason, and having literally no way at all to communicate with eBay. Makes me wonder how much I should trust anything that eBay says, like is what they say about the Buyer Guarantee also just meaningless bs and they'll freely do something entirely different?
