Seller Asking For Additional 10% Payment After Sale
so I won four bids from a seller in the UK. After I paid for the four items with combined shipping, the seller sent me a message explaining that because of terrace in the US that they needed to charge me an additional 10% of the sale price. They asked for my PayPal info to collect the money. Is this allowed by eBay?
Their message to me:
Hi,
I am just emailing to let you know that following the removal of the de minimis limit for imports to the US from the UK we must make changes to our shipping costs. AA-Wargames have absorbed the cost of the 10% tariff charge on products since August, but this is now economically unsustainable.
As you are having purchases shipped to the United States of America and you have paid for your purchases automatically, or before receiving an invoice from AA-Wargames, we now require a PayPal payment from you to cover the cost of the 10% tariff charges before we ship your purchases.
Please provide us with your PayPal email address so that I can get this invoice sent over to you as soon as possible.
If we have not heard back from you by Thursday the 4th then your order will be cancelled.
If you do not wish to pay the extra charge, then please do let us know and I can cancel the order for you.

·8 months agoNope, they cant do that. Just respond that you look forward to receiving the item. Then that is all communication. After the estimated delivery date passes, take the next step if the item doesn't arrive.
Just note, eBay cant do anything to make the seller ship, & buyers never owe the seller more money after the fact. Being an international purchase, you may own tariff fees and related fees on the item, but nothing paid to the buyer

No, what they’re asking for is not OK under eBay’s rules, and I would not pay it. Once you’ve paid through eBay, the seller is supposed to honor the total shown at checkout (item + shipping). If they mispriced shipping or didn’t factor in tariffs, that’s on them – their options are to ship as agreed or cancel the order. Asking you for your PayPal email so they can invoice you separately is changing the terms of the sale after the fact. That's not allowed.
They are probably realizing their mistake and hoping you will tell them to cancel. Don't do that. If you do, they will cancel at the buyer's request and avoid any strike on their account. Instead, I would respond that any pricing errors are their responsibility and that you expect the item to be shipped for the price agreed. I would also let them know any additional attempt to ask for more money will reported to eBay. Make clear you do not want the order cancelled. Then, if they do cancel it using a reason that indicates you are at fault, report them.
