The problem is not the amount you were charging for shipping.
The problem was that you were changing the shipping method advertised in your listing. You must accurately represent your items AND your shipping method. You can charge whatever you like, but saying you’re going to do one thing and doing something different is a problem.
I hope that you will take this as the teaching moment we’re trying to make it, and instead of getting insulted, you will learn and adjust.
Policies have already been changed. The only insult taken was from the ones written condescendingly like we all have not had to start somewhere. Mistakes happen, that's how people are born. Continuing to reiterate what I've been told does nothing.

Once you buy the label though eBay for USPS shipping, the funds get moved to USPS. USPS are the ones holding the funds not eBay. The delay to make sure that label does not get used. That delay in getting the label cost refunded has been this way for many years. I too worked in shipping and any unused USPS labels had to be tallied and taken to the post office to get a refund and then had to wait for a check to be sent.
UPS or FedEx: until the label is actually used/scanned the cost is not billed to the shipper. So, if those labels are not used then shipper does not get charged for them.
So you didn't read about selling and the fees involved? Before you actually listed the item, there is a breakdown of estimated fees.
If you don't like how the platform is run, end your listings and sell elsewhere, no one is forcing anyone to sell here.

If that unpleasant website was allowing me, with only a vague knowledge of its rules, to list and try to sell everything from large knives to children's backpacks to an electric guitar, I would delete those listings immediately.
But you're still trying to sell 15 items on eBay. You have much to learn if you're going to last longer than six days, the length of time that remains on your longest auction listings.
For example, NOTHING that you are selling is legally allowed to be mailed at the US Postal Service's (USPS) Media Mail rates. Those are the rules of the USPS.
If your local post office were to accept the Media Mail price for mailing a large knife with leather sheath, your buyer would probably face a large Postage Due request from the USPS. That buyer would be entitled to reject delivery because of Postage Due. AND leave you very negative eBay feedback.

You can provide a shipping discount if you wish, either by using flat rate shipping or by setting up discounted rates in your account settings. Offering an ineligible shipping service is not the correct way to offer a discount. The shipping service displayed on your listings should always be the one you intend to actually use.
All new and infrequent sellers are subject to payment holds, and large sales or one outside of your normal selling patterns will trigger holds as well.

Right, that part takes a little to get used to.

Or just about everything else listed. Listing with media mail doesn't give your buyers a break on the shipping cost. It means that their packages will inevitably arrive with postage due and that, in case you're unaware, causes lots of very unhappy buyers.

Probably not. Depending on how the seller bought his label, that charge would go directly to the seller. Further, I’ve received dozens of items sent media mail that didn’t qualify - never once had an issue. Heck, I used to send a large number of items “library rate,†before I knew that wasn’t allowed. Again, never once had an issue.

OP11 months agoThe labels are changed to FedEx and UPS. I have stated this multiple times.
I eat the minor difference in cost.
I have since pulled listing's, and will make sure that the seller definitely is paying for shipping then.
Ebay doesn't update already bidded on items I'm guessing so that's even more profit I have to eat
Not exactly helping the situation.

One would be the information that new sellers will have their funds held for up to 30 days.
The other is the definition of what media mail actually is. Hint: None of the five or so listings of yours that I checked qualify for media mail.

OP11 months agoPrice difference is $5, had a customer send me screenshot of them reporting. Its to deal with people like that. As I said, unfriendly experience.

Until today, the silliest thing I've ever seen listed on eBay with Media Mail shipping rates was a box of a couple hundred shiny red fish hooks.

When you buy a shipping label, the money goes to the carrier.
When you void a shipping label, the carrier is the one that holds the money and refunds when they decide the label isn't going to be used.
As far as the fee's, they are not that bad.
