Buyer buys and pays for item money sits in pending buyer then requests cancellation money comes from available funds. Guess that’s one way to hold onto money for a little longer. In my opinion if it’s cancelled ebay shouldn’t touch your available funds they should take it from the actual sale why punish the seller when the customer makes the mistake. Keeps money in their system while they send you messages trying to get you to spend it. The machine never stops trying to take every bit of what you make.

·2 years agoYou aren't being "punish[ed]" , it is the way they wrote the programming / policy. It affects everyone, not just you. I personally have disagreed with this process since I learned about it in the Summer of 2020, but clearly that has had no effect. IDK why they do this. It makes no sense to me either.
The good thing is your money should not be on hold for more than 24 hours or less.

OP2 years agoebay has put me through so much in the past two years that literally it’s my last resort. From getting countless holds on funds for zero reasons to getting charges for underpaying shipping when literally I can prove eBay isn’t right and then have usps tell me everything was fine. The reason I even put this up was that return which was t even a return customer bought it and within minutes asked me to cancel it the money just happpened to equal what ebay would have sent had I cashed out now they don’t have too. I have had entire weeks go by without seeing a single cent because everything worked out so welll I couldn’t pull anything. So this is the very end of my ebay journy.

·2 years agoCan you tell us more about the underpaid shipping issue? eBay would not have any involvement with that, beyond giving you a means of purchasing a label for whatever Shipping method, size and weight of package you choose. USPS can detect underpaid packages passing through their sort facilities and then bill back to the shipper (i.e. you) for whatever additional amount needs to be charged, but eBay doesn't have any stake in that dispute.
That said, there are plenty of stories here about USPS messing up and billing sellers for wildly inaccurate amounts, thought to be from incidents such as a small package getting stuck to a bigger one, so that two packages are accidentally weighed simultaneously. Generally you can appeal to USPS to get the charge reviewed or waived, but that's between you and USPS, not you and eBay.

·2 years agoIf the cancellation is at the buyer's request, I tell them I'm willing to cancel as soon as their payment clears. Most have been ok with that.
Now if money is on hold due to a buyer request, then when ebay finds in the buyer's favour they SHOULD take it from those held funds. That's why they're holding it in the first place, right? To make sure the funds are there to refund the buyer?

That would be the logical assumption. Does anyone know if they use the held funds to refund for subsequent claims? or is the seller required to fund it themselves first and then wait around for the initial payment to be released?
Now that eBay has changed their TOS/policies to reflect that they actually DO earn interest on held funds, it puts the whole situation in a new light. The held funds issue explained as "making eBay safe for both buyers and sellers" never made much sense, as buyers had the MBG regardless if the seller's funds were held or not. Sellers were not 'safer' that I could tell either, but eBay certainly is.

·2 years agoIt's not "punishing the seller," it's because the money that is pending is still in transit between the buyer's form of payment and eBay and it CAN'T be accessed yet. It's like if you paid someone for something with a check and then wanted a refund the next day. The person would have to dip into their own bank account to write a refund check because the funds from your check haven't cleared yet and aren't accessible.

Since I don't sell here anymore, perhaps you can answer this: Does that mean a seller is NOT given the "ok to ship" notice until the funds are no longer "pending" because they are still in transit? Is eBay taking their cut from funds that are really not there yet?
I do understand the term "pending" in MPayments is indeed different in meaning than it was when we accepted PayPal (i.e. in the case of an echeck), but I was under the assumption that now funds can be pending and the seller is still directed to ship.

OP2 years agoYes when you ship and fees come out of avail balance while what they paid is pending it’s a way for lower payments to be sent. And I just noticed today when you offer free shipping and you use eBay to make the label they take the fees out of that as well

OP2 years agoI could see that argument but it can be accessed as long as you spend it on eBay as on as it’s paid you can access it but you can’t withdraw it for two days so if eBay can access it to buy stuff on their site they should be able to access it to cover something that I had zero control over

·2 years agoThen ebay should wait until they can be accessed. How can sellers be sure they aren't going to lose 2x the amount of money, once because ebay takes it outof their bank acct instead of waiting, and twice because since the buyer cancelled, the pending funds could go back to the cc processor. The seller could get screwed over here.
Again, unnecessarily adversarial and punitive towards sellers.

The OP @diecastorbust is the seller. He/she is speaking about NOT using the buyer's funds (pending/on hold) for a refund due to a cancellation request by the same buyer. The refund is taken from funds from other transactions that have passed the "pending" stage ( now marked available) and presumably ready to be sent to the seller's bank.
Had the available funds not been enough, the seller has to fund the refund amount in full by other means (i.e their bank account or card). eBay will not use the buyer's actual money.

OP2 years agoI know exactly what sellers policy is doesn’t mean I have to agree with it. Buyers never have to account for their actions. Doesn’t matter if it’s a $1 or $1000. If the buyer would have paid attention money that should be a bale to be withdraw. And now can’t wouldn’t be tied up. This post isn’t asking opinions or policies it’s frustration about how sellers are always the ones that come up short.

OP2 years agoI’m talking from a sellers point of view. Your refund came out of a sellers avail money mean while the item you just bought and got a refund for sits in pending meaning money I could have withdrawn and used today instead pays for the buyers mistake and now I have to wait two days to get what was avail.

OP2 years agoAnd yes when you sell you don’t get the money that day or the next day you get it 48 hours later 48 hours is two “Days†so yes they hold it for days. Wether it’s two or 10 days the point is that take it from money I could have used today meanwhile the buyer is free to use it when ever. Buyer makes a mistake and get refunded almost immediately meanwhile seller has to wait 48 hours to get reimbursed for buyers mistake.
