Purchase of a tractor through e-bay
I am attempting to purchase a tractor through e-bay. I received an e-mail with directions on how to pay through "Vanilla Visa". Is this legitimate? I've not been asked to pay this way in the past.

·3 years agoScammers try to hook you by telling you eBay is handling the sale. They tell you eBay will send you the details. You give them your name, address and email address and the scammer sends you a fake invoice usually wanting payment by gift cards or a pre-paid credit card. That's because they can be drained immediately and there's no refunds on those cards. The phone and email in the fake invoice connects to the scammer.
Sometimes they'll send you a link to a fake listing on eBay!
eBay doesn't handle arrangements. There's no inspection period. Vehicles can't be returned.

There are no dream deals on tractors out there.

You did NOT find that tractor on ebay. You found it elsewhere and the scammer is making you think that they are on Ebay. NEVER pay for anything using those gift cards. They are untraceable.
When you buy a vehicle, you must inspect it in person. Do not rely on photos . Do NOT bother responding to the scammers.

Anything? Not quite correct. A buyer can pay for actual Ebay purchases with eBay gift cards.

·3 years agoIn reality, you are NOT purchasing a tractor through ebay; you saw it on another site and a scammer is just playing you.
Only vehicles actually LISTED on eBaymotors are vehicles on eBay- and ebay does NOT
a.) escrow
b.) warehouse
c.) deliver
You buy it, you arrange payment, you arrange pick up- all between you and the seller. NO MIDDLE MAN.

·3 years ago@rubys-4219 No, this is not legitimate. You probably found the tractor on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace and they are using eBay's reputation to lull you into a false sense of security. You did the right thing to hesitate!
