PayPal at checkout didn't ask me what card to use, automatically used checking account
Summary: 8emjay8 discussed an issue with PayPal during checkout, noting that it did not prompt them to choose a payment card and instead automatically used their checking account. Other participants expressed similar experiences, indicating a possible common issue with PayPal's payment process.
For many years I've selected PayPal at checkout and it takes me to a PayPal screen to select my payment method; checking account, cards or PayPal Credit. But this time it just hit my checking account automatically.
My PayPal says that I have automatic payments set up with eBay as of Oct 27. That was the same day I submitted a Make Offer (that the seller declined). I do recall having to consent to some billing agreement even though I never had to do that in the past.
If I remove eBay auto payments from PayPal, will it go back to me being able to select the checking/card/credit when I checkout at eBay using PayPal?... or do I need to login to PayPal first each time to select the desired card as the default payment method?

·1 year agoIts always good to chk paypal before a purchase bc there might be an offer for you, that shaves a bit of the price when it hits your account. So while there, set the default account to which one you desire since that will be locked in if/when you made another offer for an item and the Seller accepts.

If you mean that when you check out of eBay and select PayPal, you are not able to choose a specific payment method in your PayPal wallet but one is automatically selected for you, in that case go to your eBay Payments page in your eBay account and delete the entry for PayPal that appears there.

The next time you check out on eBay and choose PayPal, you should be sent to your PayPal wallet page and given a chance to pick a specific payment method.

·1 year agoebay made some changes so that sellers would quit getting stuck with unpaid items, what you have agreed to is a stipulation stating that payment will be deducted automatically. you can work around it by going into paypal and changing your default payment source either before you a do a ebay transaction or just change it as needed from time to time or permanently.

·3 weeks agoThis is annoying. The old payment flow where one was given the option to choose the funding source (perhaps with a default selected only requiring an "OK" click) was far better than this new flow.
