I received this email from eBay few days ago. I am wondering if this is a new change that affect every seller on eBay or targeted on some sellers only. Anyone knows the answer? thanks. By the way, I always ship on the same day or next day using eBay label. No claim in the past few or 10 years as I can remember.
We are making changes to the way we process payments on eBay. Going forward, we’ll make your funds available for payout within 72 hours after we’ve confirmed delivery of the item. Until then, you’ll see a “hold†on your funds. This process helps keep our marketplace safe. |

·11 months agoSo I got the same message and immediately suspended all international shipping. Frankly I'm being tired of being screwed over and over by eBay incompetent leadership. I think it's time to move on to another platform. Waiting for 20 something days to get paid is not a valuable option. I have a 100 percent feedback for 24 years and according to eBay rep (leadership) this payment policy will apply to everyone.

·1 year agoEbay customer service abrubtly hung up on me when I asked why my funds being put on hold. I use ebay envelopes to sell sports cards. They could take up to a month to deliver because ebay refuses to improve their shipping service and seller experience. Some of these envelopes don't even get scanned at destination for delivery. Ebay told to ask the buyer to leave postive feedback or contact ebay when envelopes don't get scanned. Basically, they want me sit here and beg a buyer who don't feel like replying to my requests to get paid? This is a joke ... I have two choice, leave ebay ... yes Whatnot treats sellers much better. Or raise my shipping fees and not accept ebay shipping service.

·1 year agoNot sure what you think Ebay could do about the ESE, since Ebay doesn't deliver them.

·1 year agoJust started payment holds for this 3-day after delivery policy 6/1/2025. Chatted with 4x reps and called 1x person in the USA. No resolution given over the phone, just an offer to take feedback to their leadership. This process does not in any way make the marketplace safer for buyers... That is what buyer protection is for. It does, however, provide a financial incentive for eBay with float and reduces their financial risk by shifting it onto sellers. Not only is my days receivables from eBay shifting from 2 days to 7-14 days like stated in the above article, I'm now concerned if a buyer opens a dispute and eBay decides to side with them. In the past, if this happened, eBay would charge me back through my available funds or through my backup credit card. Now, I don't even have the money in the first place so now in worst case scenarios, I have to fight to get paid or not get paid at all. I'll have to find a way to shift my sales away from eBay to reduce my risk and maintain control over my business finances...

·1 year agoYou would think they would treat good sellers like us better not worse. Yes, I have been exploring Offer up, Amazon (again, hated it the first time) Spotify, Marketplace etc... eBay has now incentives me to leave at my earliest convenience. They will see their own revenue and seller count shrink and their stock price implode. Shirt eBay, that is the best bet at this point.

·1 year agoIt's the value of what you sold; a coin pushing $15000 sold April 9, and another item over $2000 sold few days after.
Until your norm is 'no issues' with items sold for that high a few hundred times, this will be YOUR new norm.

OP1 year agoSo sounds like this will be permanent from now on? In the past when I sold some high value items eBay usually will hold the following item sold for few days but not like this. It really sucks.

·1 year agoSo when a seller is successful in selling high value items they get penalized. Makes perfect sense for a moron company...

As @wastingtime101 mentioned, this is part of a policy eBay put in place when they updated their Payments Terms of Use late last year which allows eBay to delay payouts until after delivery confirmation in some situations - usually when an account's activity trips certain risk factors like being a new/infrequent seller, high value sales, unusual selling activity, unresolved buyer claims etc.
In the past, if your account tripped those risk factors, eBay would typically apply a 15 or 30 day hold so this new policy may allow sellers to receive their funds sooner than they otherwise might have.
We're all just regular eBay users here in this community, so we may be able to make some educated guesses about what might have tripped the risk factors for your account but since we don't work for eBay, we can't say for sure - you'd need to reach out to eBay support for more details about why this is being applied to your account and when/if eBay may lift it and allow you to return to regular payouts.

·1 year agoIt's another one of eBay's typical **bleep** the seller .oves. over ten years ago, sellers used to receive funds in their PayPal account immediately, they used the "buyer experience" as an excuse to slowly chip away at the sellers ability to receive payment quickly. Once they dispenced with their PayPal relationship, funds were released approximately three days after payment, already worse than previously, now they would hold funds for up to two weeks or more under the constant excuse of protecting buyers. How about protecting sellers with cancellations, bidders who don't pay but screw up auction results, false claims etc... it has gotten so that all I as a seller would like nothing more than to tell eBay to jump in a very cold toxic lake and with that my approximately $15,000 in annual fees. Perhaps then they would give a **bleep** about the sellers and lock down in the real fraudster selling accounts that any fool can identify but their bots can't (took me five tries to buy Apple headphones that weren't fake or showed up and most are still selling but I get this zinger of a notice because I sold a high value item? Sickening!

·1 year agoThis is normal and many sellers receive this message. Generally there is something about your account that eBay's algorithm has flagged as higher risk. Could be any number of factors from suddenly selling more to buyer claims to type of item you're selling, or any number of factors about your account we don't have visibility to. Once an account is flagged, payments will be held. Eventually the hold will be released if the risk factor goes away.
Without being privy to your account details, my best guess right now is the value of this recently sold item triggered the holds: 176995722124
Editing to add a link to the payment holds help page which says, in part, "High priced items or unusual selling patterns may lead to transaction holds for up to 30 days to help us ensure that buyers don't have any issues with the order."
The good thing about your hold is it's short! 72 hours after confirmed delivery. Previously eBay was applying 15-30 day holds. More sellers are seeing payout after delivery which is a good thing when compared to a 30 day hold. In my opinion that's a positive change eBay made in the last 6 mo or so.

·1 year agoI hope you guys were well paid for the hard work of spreading misinformation. Because you don't know any clue about what happening actually, or you know the truth but intentionally spreading misinformation.

·1 year agoThat is very unusual to get that type of message. Have you had many cases for "did not receive item"? It is possible that EBAY bots may have noticed something unusual with the tracking or delivery of your items.
