My payout was 20
Why did ebay take so much? It charged them $44 and my earnings said $29.92 minus all the fees, etc. But my payout was $20 only. Does that seem right? The buyer paid for shipping.

·1 year agoThe payout does not always reflect the amount of any single transaction.
To see what the payout consisted of click here:
https://www.ebay.com/sh/fin/payouts
Then click the 10-digit link (number) under Payout ID on the line that corresponds with your $20.00. It will give you a detailed breakdown of why it is $20
(A quick glance at your sold items tells me that the payout might include deductions for (2) 4.41 shipping charges that came out of that sale, and the funds from the 2 recent sales are still on hold.) Can't tell for sure though

OP1 year agoWhy would I ever sell a thing on ebay if they take 33%

·1 year agodepends on what options you took when you made the listing typically with a standard listing ebays fee is around 13-14%, if you selected other marketing options then that rate goes up.

I don't think anybody would ever choose to sell anything on eBay if their Final Value Fee (FVF) was 33%. But it's not.
In True Fact, eBay's highest FVF percentage is 15.3%. Most eBay categories carry a 13.6% FVF.
(Plus a per-order charge of 40 cents when the total paid by the buyer is $10.01 and more.
It's only 30 cents when the buyer's total is $10.00 or less.)
What you need to know is that the FVF percentage is applied to the Total Amount Paid By The Buyer.
American eBay buyers pay:
(1) the price of the item plus (2) probably a postage/shipping price plus (3) usually some sales taxes.
My selling ID recently sold an item for $29.37.
The buyer also paid $17.01 for shipping and handling and $2.87 for sales tax, adding up to $49.25.
eBay's 13.6% FVF on $49.25 is $6.70. Add eBay's 40 cent per-order fee, and the total selling fee was $7.10.
(Edited to fix my "bads.")

OP1 year agoThanks, I did not realize they were holding the shipping costs for other items despite the other customers having already paid for their shipping costs.

·1 year agoDon't be confused. They are not "holding" the shipping funds, IF you are using ebay shipping labels, and funding the label from your "funds" (and NOT the Paypal option) they have been paid from your held funds. Payouts do not reflect a single transaction. They contain multiple credits, debits and fees you pay from your available/processing/held funds.
maybe this will help clear it up a bit (or not...) LOL
