Multiple Buyers Exploiting Chargeback After Refund Scam
Today I had 4 orders — and shockingly, 3 of them followed the same fraudulent pattern.
Buyers place an order, immediately ask for cancellation, I issue a full refund, and shortly after they open a dispute through their payment provider (e.g. PayPal), falsely claiming they didn’t authorize the transaction. This is clearly an attempt to receive a double refund — and it's happening in waves.
I'm aware that eBay protects sellers in such cases, and I appreciate that. But the fact that this happened three times in one day makes me think this is becoming a widespread abuse tactic.
Is anyone else experiencing a spike in this type of scam?

·1 year agoSame thing happend to me and ebay helped the scammer to steal my money. ebay will always side with scammers and abusers against honest sellers. 11 years selling on ebay full time.

·1 year agook, well close enough, 1 and then done I guess.
I personally seem to run into a lot more bad sellers than buyers

·1 year agoCould be a 'guest account'...same buyer on all 3 using a different account.
The buyer usually has no feedbacks.
Or it could be a buyer who doesn't know how to use a guest account.
Just thoughts.

OP1 year agoI just wanted to let you know that I blocked the buyer right away, and almost immediately received a response that the payment institution had ruled in my favor — no need to wait the usual 2–8 weeks. I also reported this buyer through eBay’s Facebook support so they’ll have them on their radar.

·1 year agoHave you reported the buyers to eBay?

·1 year agoIt is also credit card fraud. If a buyer did this as a "one time", most likely it would be considered a buyer mistake, but if a pattern of repetition started to occur, then that buyer could face a bunch of other issues with their payment source

There's no way they can get a double refund. If you issue a refund for the cancellation request, a claim through PP wouldn't go through.

OP1 year agoSo once eBay reviews the dispute, will the return be denied? This is the first time I’ve experienced something like this — and it’s already happened three times in one day...

·1 year agoput them in the blocked buyer list so they cannot try it again, you can also change your settings to only accept purchases from buyer with a specific amount of feedback. that might help reduce fraud attempts.
All they are doing is stepping on there own foot, opening a case with your credit card company goes on your record just like missing a payment. ebay also takes record and will eventually remove them from the site.

That part is incorrect.

·1 year agoThat's not possible.

·1 year agosure you can and more, albeit they need to have a feedback score of 5 or less

·1 year agoNo, you can't block a buyer based on the amount of feedback.
You can block them from buying from you again within a certain amount of time.
albertabrightalberta
·1 year agoThat only applies to new buyers who try to purchase more than the number of items you choose.
You cannot restrict buyers based solely on feedback count.
