Is eBay taking the complete **bleep**.
I have an eBay account which is two years old and I sell a few bits here and there. About six months ago I sold something which was over a 1k and the restricted my account and couldn’t get the money for 30 days even though the seller gave great feedback and the item was Royal Mail tracked. I let that one slide. Last week I sold several items with varying degrees of value. Firstly they sent a message to say due to recent activity they’re looking into my account. Then another message saying they’ve restricted my account and I’d have to provide tracking data. All items were tracked and customers gave feedback which was shown to eBay. Now they want me to provide them receipts of proof of ownership for the items already sold. Baring in mind my account is 2 years old with 100% feedback score, no fees owed and not only have they fleeced nearly £300 in charges they are withholding £2500 with of my money. It beggars belief that a company can operate like this under the guise of “fairness and transparency†it’s a con. They make money out of withholding funds and this has nothing to do with my account as everything is in order. They are scammers.

·2 years agoFeedback has never counted as a factor in getting funds released. You wouldnt be the first seller to get positive feedback, then three weeks later have that buyer open a not as described case.

·2 years agoIf you sell infrequently eBay has measures in place to make sure you're on the level. There are times when hackers might target a dormant account and try to sell higher value items on it, or the actual account holder may have been trying to build up a decent feedback history to scam people later down the road. The best thing to do is hold funds for a while and see which way the wind is blowing...
Many thieves are still under the impression that eBay is a quick way to make some money by scamming people until they find out otherwise. The only way to stop some is to stop all, so even if you're doing nothing wrong you will have your funds held as an infrequent seller or if you fall under their suspicion for abnormal activity. Often times even frequent sellers are asked to provide poof of ownership for various items.

·2 years agoThat "few bits here and there" qualifies you as an infrequent seller. There is an eBay statement somewhere that explains that sellers in that category can expect to have their funds held.

OP2 years agoI’m not a business and haven’t advertised myself as such so the frequency of me selling shouldn’t come in to question. They have asked for validation of who I am, name address and photograph all supported by the relevant documentation. It’s a total scam.

·2 years agoDon't argue with eBay policy. Infrequent sellers and sellers that sell expensive items have payments held, PERIOD. That would be you.
They used to publish when you sell 25 items within 90 days valued over $250 then your payments won't be held. You must consistently sell here before your payments aren't held. Doesn't matter if you have a personal or a business account.

So, you think your eBay selling frequency shouldn't be a factor in eBay's policies about payment holds . . . . .
But, in true fact, all eBay sellers' selling frequency is the main factor in eBay's policies about payment holds.
