I use paypal (preferred method is amex) but paypal takes the money out of my bank

I read what is on the board already and I am set up properly. My paypal is set up to use amex as the preferred method. Yet, when I buy from ebay, paypal takes the money from my bank.

Paypal claims that it has nothing to do with them, but is ebay.

Is this what everyone else is experiencing?

eBay has not accepted AmEx payments since 2024:

Some people have recommended using the AmEx through PayPal, as a work-around, but I have not seen any reports or confirmations that this actually works. I recall, when this was first announced, seeing reports that it did not work, and that you could not use AmEx to pay for eBay purchases through PayPal.
