Hypothetical Question – What If a High-Value Pokémon Card Turns Out to Be Fake After Return Window?
Hi everyone,
I have a question about how eBay would handle the following situation:
Let’s say I purchase a high-value Pokémon TCG card for $13,000 on eBay. The seller offers a return window of only 3 days.
Now imagine that after receiving the card, I send it to PSA for a re-holder service. A week later, PSA informs me that the card is fake. At this point, the 3-day return window has already passed.
If I can provide official documentation from PSA confirming the card is not authentic, but I can no longer return the item due to the return policy, would eBay still be able to help in this case?
I’m asking this hypothetically to understand what protections eBay offers in such cases involving high-value collectibles and authentication issues discovered after the return window.

First, need to know what country...USA is currently closed to buyers in Israel...and not sure of other countries.
Buyer would also have to OK their credit card company for such a large $$$ purchase...can't just do that online usually unless you spend that kind of money every so many months...I do wedding purchases for clients so I know a little.
Grading a card takes quite a while as with grading anything in the USA...Israel...I have no idea.
A buyer with little feedbacks the seller probably wouldn't sell it.
A buyer needs some history of purchases such as a purchase like this as well.
So, the question is how would the seller handle the following situation.

·1 year agoAre you asking as a buyer or as a seller. Either way can the card be sent to eBay's Authenticity Center for authentication?

·1 year agoEbay will not help you at all. And at $13K, I think a charge back will be difficult, too

·1 year agoNo, after the MBG has expired, Ebay wouldn't do anything.
You would need to check with your payment source and see if they would be any help.
I would do that before making such a purchase.

·1 year agoThat gets messy as how do you know the grading service did not switch the card? With rare antiques, they take photos of any defects like crazing and write a description that is part of the COA. But there is nothing that ties the card to the sealed holder.
I have a pre Pokemon Topsun Ninetales card. Paid 10.00 for it. Not sure any would hold a five figure price.

·1 year ago1. The seller cannot offer a return window of only 3 days. Per the eBay Money Back Guarantee, any buyer who receives an item not as described has 30 days after receipt to open an item not as described case.
2. As a relatively new buyer, you need to seriously reconsider the purchase of a 13K item here.
3. BTW, how about reading that Money Back Guarantee so that you'll know what to do if/when an eBay transaction goes wrong?
4. I hope you ARE asking this hypothetically.
5. eBay doesn't require a buyer who opens an NAD case to actually prove their claim.

But I still hope the OP was only asking hypothetically.
