Here's a new one for me - payment on hold
I've been selling since 1998, including many overseas customers, and I've never had an issue that couldn't or wouldn't be resolved. I've also never had any payments held by Ebay or Paypal that weren't part of a dispute of some kind. This morning I sold a fairly spendy item to a buyer in Japan. Not an issue, I've done that many times without a problem. But now Ebay says they are holding the payment "while we confirm that the buyer does not have an issue with the order after they receive it".
No idea what's going on. Why all of a sudden am I not trusted to do something I've done dozens of times without issue? And what if the customer decides they "have an issue" with the order after they receive it? Am I just out the money?

·1 year agoI'm an active eBay seller with "TOP RATED" tier and an account with excellent standing, excellent service, products, and I was always greeted on the phone with "thank you for your loyalty, you've been with us for more than 20 years", never had a single case closed without a solution, never had a problem refunding a buyer, and most of the times I reach out to buyers by phone whenever a slight issue arises. Let alone the dozens of times I had to send certain suspicious buyers replacement without them paying a cent or even sending what they claimed as "defective" item back to us. Last time I shipped to Europe and paid over $28 in fees to ship it, the buyer rejected it and opened an "item not received" case, and it was explicitly stated by the tracking info that it was rejected at customs. All I did was issue a full refund and incur the loss.
This was only a small portion of the situations I had and how I used to deal with them, nevertheless, and after 20 years, I, too, got this "HOLD" thing for no obvious reason. I need my hard earned money because I'm a product maker and I have a bunch of suppliers to pay, bills, etc. Yet, eBay has no clear explanation or criteria to refer you to when it comes to plaguing your account with this thing. Well, to be honest, I thought this happened to me alone, or for a reason, but looks like it happens to many people far more than I anticipated. Again, this is vague and unjustified!

·1 year agoCan you tell me what is vague about eBay's Payment Hold Policy?

·1 year agoThis is true. And it's not applied to all sellers. That's a real head shaker.
I know of complaints of a 170 day hold. imagine having your payments held that long? The policy says 30 days, but may be longer. They should just say it could be held up to 180 days. Of course they won't because sellers would flee.
I think a long hold like that is because the buyer has a history of filing disputes or a court has ordered eBay to hold funds because the rights owner is taking the seller to court. I don't think they tell you that's why if a long hold happens.

It's look like this is a common problem now.
