Go to paypal and set up an account. Use your bank account for the funds. Then when you buy an item on ebay, you click the PAY NOW BUTTON. It gives you a page and you click PAYPAL and you sign into your paypal account and then you make the payment. Paypal will send the funds to Ebay, Ebay will take their fees and then send the rest to the seller (assuming that the funds do NOT need to be held .) Anyway, once you pay, you should see in MY Ebay that you have paid. If you log into paypal, it will also show that you paid.
Frankly, if you have a credit card, use that to pay in Paypal. With a credit card, you have 3 layers of protection. With bank funds, just 2.

Which means they have to open a PayPal account and link their bank to PayPal. They can’t pay directly on eBay with their bank info.
I use my debit card or credit card to pay directly from those accounts. Because Pay-Pal and eBay are no longer connected except as a payment method, not sure that you even need to open a Pay-Pal account. While I have used Pay-Pal to complete transactions for other sites, I have not used it for maybe over 2-3 years on eBay, about the same time we went to managed pay and no longer carried a balance in it from sales.
No, you cannot just use a routing number. Everyone at that branch of whatever bank you are using has the same routing number, it is the bank ID number. You would need to either add your debit or credit card number to your account, don't know if checking account number can be used.
