Has Ebay/PayPal stopped accepting particular VISA Prepaid gift cards?
I have sucessfully used prepaid VISA gift cards for many many years for Ebay purchases, including as recently as two weeks ago.
After getting a card declined message during checkout this week, I contacted both Ebay and Credit card company. The card company stated that Ebay and Paypal are no longer accepting these prepaid gift cards. I am trying to confirm this, has anyone else experienced this?

·2 years agoi used visa vanilla gift cards in 2022 & my purchases worked. shame they did away with it, is there any other online stores that accepts them?

·2 years agoYeah I’ve been dealing with this too Amazon still accepts them and supposedly you can use the visa gift cards to buy eBay gift cards in a actual store really just a huge middle finger since they didn’t make a public statement and eBay cards are somewhat getting rarer

·2 years agoIt's pretty stupid not to accept these debit cards. It's the safest way to make online purchases, since you're not usind your actual bank account...... this promotes hacking, identity theft......... somebody draining your personal bank account ! ! !

·2 years agoI have had the same trouble. I contacted live help on eBay but they didn’t tell me anything about this new policy. For years I have used visa gift cards for all my purchases. Suddenly for the last few months I couldn’t. This is the first time I have actually come across someone else who had this same issue and that they are changing their policy.

·2 years agothe same thing has been happening to me! i thought the issue was with ''vanilla'' gift cards as they had been problematic in the past but today i bought a regular visa prepaid card & the purchase was continuously declined! not sure what these genius's have done but it will alienate & anger prospective customers & make them lose business!

·2 years agoIt’s already angered me. I was a good buyer with 100% rating and tried to be a good customer. I’ve given a lot of business to eBay, too.

·2 years agoI have had ALL my AMEX (prepaid gift card) transactions declined by Ebay. I have used this method since I have been a member which is over six years. This is ridiculous since the money is already there! On one thread I read that the Ebay's pre-payment processor is declining the cards but Ebay is the one who contracted with the company to process their payments so it should be their responsibility. It sounds like this is happening with VISA, too.

·3 years agoIt's only in select categories. What were you trying to purchase?
Example- Expensive watches. They were getting a lot of chargebacks claiming they received a counterfeit watch, when they weren't, but the cc co always sides with the buyer, who is their customer they want to keep so the buyer gets their money back and they don't have to return the watch.

·2 years agoMy Vanilla Visa gift card got rejected by eBay for payment of a <$80 tabletop vintage religious statue ... hardly counterfeit, nor was it an expensive category item.
Something ugly went down between eBay and Vanilla Visa (MetaBank). We're just not being given the story. 🧠It's not us. eBay, like PayPal, is now not letting us save and use or register Vanilla gift cards under our account profile anymore (and they used to).

·3 years agoI have been using my visa vanilla gift card on Etsy with no problems, I went to check my balance today and i noticed they had added this disclaimer at the top of the page. It doesn't seem like Ebay is going to be accepting Visa Vanilla Gift Cards anymore. I wonder why they just don't come out and say why? What happened and why can't we link them to paypal? 😞

·2 years agoI just called my Visa vanilla card service and they said it will work but it takes 24hrs after card purchase before eBay will honor it. I guess we'll see tomorrow after 7pm CST.

·3 years agoYes, unfortunately, that is correct. I have successfully used a Vanilla gift card in the past to purchase a Dynex 15 minute charger earlier this year. This week, I wanted to get another one because it did AAAs so well, no heating, popping or hissing which is rather unusual for a 15 minute charger. You just had to make sure to wait till the fan turned off for best results which is a few minutes after the lights turn off. Of course, with no notice I found that E-bay no longer accepts Vanilla Prepaid cards. I just got off the phone with a representative, and there is $ on the card. i tried setting up a Pay-Pal account and getting it linked up with them to no avail. It just kept giving me card declined message. So I am SOL. This bites since the only reason I bought the card is to be able to purchase items online. I am not allowed to even have an official debit card in my hands with my own money either, so I am officially SOL with this new policy they implemented. You might want to check with e-bay if they accept e-bay gift cards or Mastercard prepaid, but I am not so sure. I wouldn't feel like throwing more money at the problem.

·3 years agowith prepaid credit cards you have to call the card company & see if they still do business with Ebay, because as of July some prepaid credit cards stopped doing business with Ebay.. a customer service rep told me the easiest solution until they figure out which prepaid cards stopped doin business is to just get the Ebay gift cards which they still do take

I will start using the Ebay gift cards but sadly found they are not sold at any stores in my immediate area and have to drive several additional miles to get to a store that sells them. Also , it seems they are only avail in amounts up to $200, where the other VISA gifts were avail up to $500.
Still hoping the VISA gift card issue will eventually be resolved.

Be careful with the ebay gift cards.
You might want to do a search on this board and see the issues others are having.

·2 years agoBingo. The other cards have a low load capacity - I almost always load the Vanilla Visas for $500, the loading fee's the same for all Vanilla Visa gift cards, so more bang for the fee to load $500.
Although eBay allows up to 3 (?) funding sources during checkout, or they used to back in the good old eBay bucks days, so I suppose if they still allow you to use 2 or 3 of the eBay gift cards, you could do that.
Did eBay reject Vanilla Visa gift cards, or was it the other way around? 🤔

·3 years agoI've been having the same problem with Secure Spend prepaid Visas. I haven't been able to pay for things here since last Thursday. The card works just fine on Amazon, and other stores. I've even been able to buy in-game content for Blizzard games on PC with those cards. I don't know what's going on.

OP3 years agoPrior to last week, I had used various Visa Gift cards, Vanilla Gift Visa and others on Ebay and other online sites for many years and never had an issue.
When I contacted Ebay last week, I was also told it was a technical problem that would be resolved shortly, but I've seen other users mentioning that they are experiencing ongoing similar problems.
I did try to use one of the cards again today and it still did not work

·2 years agoTried using my AMEX today and it was declined AGAIN. It should not take this long (over sixty days) to correct this problem. There is not a problem with accepting Ebay gift cards....

·2 years agoAs of 01/08/2023 the vanilla visa gift cards still do not work on ebay or PayPal. This would have been very very useful info before i purchased these things🤦â€â™‚ï¸.what a problem this caused for me.

·3 years agoI just found the post from July 6. The poster wanted to use a VANILLA VISA prepaid card. here neither ebay nor paypal would accept it. Someone responded that a VISA rep told them that they could not be used for online buying.
I will tell you that you lose buyer protection when you use a gift card. Nothing beats a credit card when buying online.
