Fees on sales tax -- legal ?
I still fell that it's a rip off when ebay takes the high percentage fees out of the sales tax !! Plus their 15% & adds a .40 fee on top of that. When was the last time the State did an audit on sales tax ???

·1 month agoWhich law do you suppose is being broken, exactly?
Would you feel any better if eBay raised their fee percentage, but no longer included the sales tax in the calculation, so that the fee amounts were exactly the same?
Changing the way the fee is calculated does not necessarily change the fee amount as long as eBay can set the percentage.

·1 month agoOf course it's legal. And I'm glad they do it. It's absolutely worth what they charge so I don't have to report and pay to every taxing authority in this country

·1 month ago · EditedVast majority of sellers wouldn't have to it the way the old laws were in place. eBay only collects and remits because they are compelled to do so b/c of their size. So, eBay isn't really "saving" anything for me - they are just complying with requirements on marketplaces. They aren't picking up something that I would have to do on my own.

·1 month agoSo you are saying that if eBay didn’t collect and remit the sales tax then you wouldn’t either? You would just not report it?

·1 month agoCorrect. Before eBay was compelled to collect and remit, I wasn’t required to do it. That’s the way it worked.

·1 month agoThat depends on your state. Most states required sales tax to be collected on in state sales even before the internet sales tax laws.

·1 month agoTrue – but that really wasn’t enforced. Just like that requirement that buyers were supposed to figure out what sales tax should’ve been on the items they purchased from out of state and then report that on their taxes. Right – we all did that 😉

·1 month agoMy state enforced it. They also enforced out of state purchases from major retailers before adding the internet sales tax laws.
I'm not sure what state would allow you to collect sales tax from a buyer but not remit it.
