Fee on sales tax?
Why are we charged an eBay fee on the sales tax the buyer pays? We are paying a fee on a tax we do not collect from a source that’s not ours? Not sure the legality of this.

·1 year agoAs sellers on a platform that has nexus in all 50 states, sales tax must be collected. eBay does this for us, and believe me, the % they charge is cheap compared to each one of us filing sales tax in 50 states plus any county or city with additional districts taxes. Small business pay the taxes monthly and file quarterly reports for each jurisdiction....pain in the a**!! Be happy eBay does it for us...and it has a cost
Plus, if you ever have paid with a credit card, business have always paid a fee on the total amount...it is for the service and the cost of money, doesn't matter if it's tax, freight, labor, or a gift... you pay a fee on the total amount of money loaned

·1 year agoSomeone has to pay for the cost of sales tax collection.
Most states do not, and those that do make only a token payment.
Ebay has decided the seller pays the costs which are substantial for administering and paying the marketplace facilitator tax.
It is legal because it is disclosed and meets the provisions of the agreement contract which sellers enter into with Ebay.
No way would I collect sales tax for all of the bloodsucking states that have one if I had to tracking and report to all of them.

Your senator or congressional representative can do nothing about whether eBay collects a fee for doing a job that they are required by law to do.

There are over 3000 threads from sellers complaining about ebay collecting a fee on sales tax.

Ebay's fees are clearly disclosed and are charged on the entire payment.
