EBays hold on all sales until delivery confirmation
After a number of calls to determine what the c-suite brain trust was thinking when they instituted this latest insult to sellers, it became clear that eBay is simply trying to hold sellers money under the excuse that they are concerned about the "Seller experience".
Over 15 years and hundreds of thousands of sales dollars, it is abundantly clear that they don't get that they need sellers to have buyers to have experiences. They rarely solve issues I have with scam buyers claiming damages that didn't exist, or leave sellers with little history in selling fake apple headphones, or sneakers etc... so losing money to true scammers, they figured let's go after our sellers and keep their money no matter how slow USPS has gotten, or the damages sellers get with UPS or FedEx.
All said, this is indeed an insult to our intelligence as it has affected everyone from casual sellers to volume sellers with substantial histories. So what options do we have beyond quitting eBay? Not much as Amazon is terrible to deal with, Mercari is clunky but releases funds in about three days, OfferUp is spotty, Marketplace is improving but you have to deal with many scammers, a poor system of contact and other sites have limited traffic. Does anyone have any insights into how to improve our seller payout after this insult? Or will we just have to start our own Shopify stores and finally end the abuse with eBay?

·1 year agoThe OP has a large variation in sale amounts. He/she is more likely to be the subject of holds that a seller with a more consistent pattern of sale amounts.
I suspect there are some algorithms which correlate risk with the mean sale amount and the standard deviation from the mean.
Internet crime is at higher levels today than it was before the pandemic.

I expect all your bad feedback has something to do with your holds. You have several inr complaints, and what looks like cancellations, thats a red flag to Ebay, and puts you on their radar.

OP1 year agoI doubt that and am wondering if you are an eBay bot replying to supper these idiotic policies. If eBay thinks sellers will put up with the **bleep** because they have 5 negative comments out of hundreds while ignoring the excellent feedback received, I doubt it will inspire sellers to keep selling with abusive holds. You keep outlining conditions that eBay would impose restrictions on an account like mine that sellers some $100,000 a year with a couple high value sales, limited negative feedback and the like while ignoring the excessive restrictions on sellers all the while focusing on "buyer experience". Without top quality sellers, there would be no buyers. If they treat an account like mine like this, they will lose more sellers and volume and their all important stock price will keep going down. A stupid strategy.

·1 year agoNo, not a bot, Im a real, live, human being. Unfortunately, Ebay doesnt look at positive feedback, but they do issue defects for too many snads, and transaction cancellations. With 17 million sellers, and thousands more joining every month, along with almost two billon listings, Ebay will never run out of sellers.

·1 year agoOne good thing about Ebay, they treat all the sellers the same, big or small.

·1 year agoYa, they'll screw a big seller just as much as they would a small seller.
Time here and how much you sell, doesn't mean anything to Ebay.

·1 year ago@gettincreaky this is not a new policy and does not currently and likely will not any time soon affect all sellers, despite the confusing communication from eBay that sellers have been reporting receiving about this issue for months.
Payment policy updates which went into effect in January state that eBay can apply this hold until after delivery confirmation for some sellers which trip risk factors in some scenarios.

"In some cases (for example, if you are a new seller on eBay), funds may become available for disbursement after the items have been deemed delivered to their shipping destination as described in this help page. "
eBay does not provide a detailed list of those scenarios but they may include (but are not limited to) - new/occasional sellers, sellers who have unresolved claims filed by buyers, sellers with unusual selling patterns (like selling items at a higher value than usual), etc.
In your case, I see you recently sold a $3800+ item, which is a higher value than your usual average sales, so that is most likely why this policy is now being applied to your account.

OP1 year ago...and after selling and shipping and receiving wonderful feedback I as a seller am just supposed to say yes eBay, please hold my funds and pay me weeks later because I successfully sell high valued items? Ridiculous, abusive and insulting. No incentive to sell anything with this hold pattern after successful sales especially when eBay reps lie to me and say it is applied to all sellers when it is clearly not. If eBay thinks this is a good idea with high volume and value sellers in good standing then they will lose those sellers and the buyers they bring in. Stupid frankly as this seller has already moved a good portion of sales off the site. And will continue to migrate away from eBay that always seems to do more damage than good to sellers with their asinine policies to "maximize buyer experiences".

·1 year agoI haven’t experienced any or holds or what ever you are currently dealing with.
There’s more to the story than you are telling for eBay to put a hold on your payout. You need to reread the message eBay sent you the reason for the hold on payouts will be there.
When eBay makes a decision to place holds, your length of time as a seller and $$ in sales don’t even enter the scenario.
Unless you also sell under a different account this ID you posted with is 9 years old.

OP1 year agoNothing more to the story. eBay has told me that it is an across the board change that may not have affected you yet. My level even affords me concierge service and even they simply said that is the way it is now. You are lucky it hasn't affected you yet.
