EBay throttles a buyers payment choice
I don’t like when I submit an offer, that I have to have a default payment m before I submit the offer. The problem is I want to be able to choose which credit card and reward points in PayPal to use for each purchase. It is defaulting to my default payment in PayPal and it’s really annoying. As a buyer, I have the right to choose How I want to pay for the item. Has anyone else experience this issue? And do you have any thoughts on how to get around it? It may be that this is more a PayPal issue, but I would still like the option of when and bid is excepted to be able to choose how I want to pay for it then and there. I realise that eBay is has instituted this policy to help buyers get paid for items that they’ve accepted bids on, instead of having to chase up When people are slow to pay.

Some have suggested that in that situation to temp set PP to only have one option for payment before making an eBay offer. (big pain removing, and then adding back after)
Personally, I might be reluctant to remove any existing payment methods from my PP account. I have read that PP may restrict what may be added as a payment method with some accounts.
Not sure if you can just change your "default payment method" on PP before sending an eBay offer.
Others suggest contacting the seller to see if they will disable the "buyer requirement" to pre-authorize. Some are taken aback by the request. Some don't know it exists.

OP2 years agoThanks – the issue is that you have to have the payment option elected before you submit The bid and so if you add in PayPal, it will automatically charge which ever card I’ve selected As the default payment method in PayPal. I like your idea of contacting the seller and asking if they can turn that feature off, or perhaps they will reduce the price and I can just buy it asâ€buy nowâ€.

·2 years agoI would be inclined to go to setting my default if that works.
Depending upon the seller, and how aware they are of the "preauthorize" payment method before bid/offer they may fly off the handle thinking there is something nefarious/scammy about your request. You could end up blocked in a heartbeat.
If contacting, I would be very clear in explaining the situation, and reasoning behind the request. If receptive to the amount that you are offering they can actually use the "reply with offer" option that is presented in the message that they get from you. My settings for preauthorize are unchecked, so that works when a buyer messages me. I do not think the buyer would nedd any preauthorize to do that.
