ebay running a scam?
I've been with ebay for 24 years. They keep thanking me for my loyalty. I recently sold an item and they've refused to pay me. The buyer paid and I was notified I needed to provide more information to get my funds.
I called and the rep had me verify my last 4 SSN digits on my computer. OK, we should be good.
My question to him was - if you were are not prepared to send me my money, why did you allow me to list an item? Why did you allow me to accept an offer? Why did you accept funds from the buyer on my behalf knowing you would not be forwarding the money to me as my account currently stands? I got no answer that made any sense. He refused to connect me with his superior. I then asked what would ebay do with the money they collected on my behalf if I didn't jump through their hoops. He said they would wait about 2 years then send it to the IRS. I pushed my question (politely) for an answer that made sense and he eventually hung up.
A company that allows (urges) you to initiate a transaction and accepts funds on your behalf knowing that they will not forward the funds to you as your account stands now - well, that's a scam.

·2 years agoI am in total agreement with a lot of what you said. I am actually experiencing a similar situation with eBay. They showed I had a payout coming on Nov 30th. As soon as the payment should have been available they restricted my account, keeping me from being able to accept my payouts. During this time, I had also sold a second item of fairly high value... They then said that my payment for the second item wouldn't be available until the day after Christmas! However, it is currently is new years eve and I have yet to be able to accept any of my payments from my account! The process that they attempt to put someone through is absolutely insane. First it was as simple as allow them a few days to look things over. That turned to clear up any ongoing issues in seller hub (there were none btw). Which has now graduated to "send us a copy of your driver's license, send us receipts from where I bought the items that I sold, send us bank statements or a utility bill from the address that you use on your account, a copy of my business license (I don't have a brick and mortar location- I am doing this as a side gig for entertainment and for a little extra cash). I literally bought a few storage units in order to get product- how do they expect an itemized list for that??? I happen to know automotive parts and saw boxes of car parts that looked new/unused! Excited for the score I bought the contents of said storage locker and boom! I swear if they ever release my money I will go and sell on Amazon and not play the games that we are playing right now. I should have stuck with being a buyer of items on eBay and not trying to sell! I do feel as if I was scammed by the system, and I am appalled that they would hold money from someone that is just trying to sell a few items. PS. I have an antique Singer sewing machine that I need to sell- IDK where would be the best place to sell such a item without eBay. I also have several video games/systems that I accumulated throughout the last year or so by purchasing them locally and through *gulp* eBay. I sincerely hope all the sellers that I used never had this experience due to them selling me an item!
Needless to say, I am very upset that I have fallen victim to what I consider to be poor business practices from a reputable company. I have been using eBay for years, and am absolutely shocked that they would hold money for items that I have sold over my head? I used eBay as my preferred selling platform because I felt as if it would be the easiest way to capture the audience that I sought.
So yeah, I feel your pain!

·2 years agoThe problem is that eBay does not require those who have sold in the past (before MP) to update things before they allow selling to resume.
Someone that was "fat and happy" with the selling/payment process of days gone by is suddenly gobsmacked by the new process. An epic eBay failure.

OP2 years agoThe world is filled with algorithms. Set it up properly. If an account does not have this, don't permit that. When I clicked on List an Item I should have be stopped or at least warned - you will not get your money unless you do this first.

^^^ This is a good question. I feel that it's wrong to allow sellers to list before being enrolled into Managed Payments.
To your other point, your 'Held' funds won't go to the IRS, but will eventually move to your state's Unclaimed Property Department if you don't enroll. Check their Public Notices and you'll be able to pick them up from your state's Administration Building... with your SSN and a photo ID. I've heard that process takes many months. Hang in there...
