Ebay is charging twice for shipping the same item, Customer paid for shipping, why is eBay charging again seller?
Summary: dr.mark_46 is concerned that eBay is charging sellers twice for shipping when the customer has already paid for it. Several participants explain that the buyer pays the seller for the shipping fees, which the seller then uses to purchase a shipping label. dr.mark_46 argues that eBay includes shipping fees in their service charges unfairly, referring to a legal case involving another platform. Other participants clarify that eBay's structure is consistent with sellers paying for shipping from the received funds and challenge dr.mark_46's understanding of the transaction process.
Why is eBay charging twice for shipping. Look at statement they send on payout: They show total price sold less advertising fees, less listing, less shipping charge. Shipping charge was paid by customer, why eBay charge seller again shipping charge. That is illegal and not as per eBay agreement. That is how Amazon got in trouble and now have to pay back $25 billion dollars. What can I do to have eBay stop charging twice for shipping?

路1 month agoYou don't know how it works. How exactly does a Buyer get the Label PURCHASED and put on the box? YOU. How do you not know this?

路1 month ago 路 EditedAs others have said, the buyer pays YOU, the seller, for the shipping, and then YOU pay for the shipping label.
You did not sell the chess clock for $18.79. You sold it for $12.99 plus $5.80 shipping.

路1 month agoNot to get off topic...
but are you really a doctor?
I don't know the Amazon story...
but I'm not sure it'd be the same scenario.
I thought Amazon had their own delivery system.
The shipping payment you get from the customer through Ebay doesn't go to any specific shipping vendor.
YOU...
are merely the middle man.
You have the freedom to use the customer's supplied funds to pick who you want.

OP1 month agoThe reason eBay combine selling price of merchandise, shipping charge and tax because they charge selling fee on all to sellar. Read what happen to Amazon, they have to retur all moneys to sellers as they were cheating for years., US Spreme Court rulled recently.

路1 month agoBuyer pays you for item + sales tax + shipping ( shipping is the price you told buyer to pay in your listing).
EBay takes their fees based on this total. EBay pays whatever state is owed the sales tax.
You ship the item and pay for it out of these funds that you receive for shipping from that sale. You can come out ahead, even, or lose money based on what you asked buyer to pay versus what the actual postage is based on weight and dimensions of the package.
You get paid whatever is left.

路1 month agoHere we go again. Not sure why sellers are not aware of this,
But
When the buyer pays for shipping those fees that YOU set up for shipping are paid to YOU. You then pay for the shipping out of those funds.

OP1 month agoNot true, We sold item for $18.79 eBay charged fee for $4.31 and shipping fee $5.80, which buyer paid already. eBay sent us $8.68.

路1 month agoI mean, it sounds like you purchased the shipping label and what's left is what you earned on the sale. 馃し

路1 month ago 路 EditedYou sold the chess set for 12.99. The sale shows 18.79, because the buyer also paid the shipping fee - TO YOU. You then used that shipping fee the buyer paid TO YOU to pay for the postage. So 12.99 minus the ebay fee of 4.31 = 8.68

路1 month ago@dr.mark_46 So if this is for the chess set as another poster stated that you had listed for 12.99, the buyer actually paid MORE than what you listed it for?????
That does not happen.

路1 month agoThe seller has to be the one to pay for shipping because the seller is the one with a package that needs to be shipped.
dr.mark_46
OP1 month agoTe buyer paid for shipping at the time he purchased item, it is listed by eBay. The shipping label is paid by buyer, unless you checked that you offer free shipping.

路1 month agoThe buyer cannot pay the shipping service directly, because the buyer does not have the package. The buyer pays eBay. eBay pays the seller (eventually). The seller pays the shipper (using the funds provided by the buyer).

路1 month agoWhen the Buyer pays the shipping fees, those fees are sent to the Seller, minus eBays fees, for the Seller to buy the postage and send the item to the buyer.
There is nothing illegal in that.
