ebay impossed holds on payouts requiring new ID
We don't want to quit eBay, but we are left no choice except to give them Photo ID, Passport ID, or Government photo ID's or refund sales and quit. We've already been through the hell of being hacked outside eBay and all that that experience entails to get everything fixed. When that we got hacked I was so glad our Photos were not out there for someone to use as they will. I am kind of at a loss. I read where the government is forcing eBay to do this, but it makes no sense. The U.S. government already has access to our ID's Passports, or Government ID's. Their computers can easily cross check a banking account to our government generated ID's. So JUST WHAT GOVERNMENT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT HERE? The other excuse I hear on here is they're doing this for added security for my benefit. Making me open myself to a broader exposure by supplying some computer somewhere with my photo and personal ID information is hard to believe the intention is greater security for me... Man I hate this, I really really hate this, but I guess you are forced to either cough up the ID or leave. And one last thing... EBAY hasn't enforced this across the entire spectrum of sellers. It seems you must do something to trigger this action and reaction by eBay to freeze payouts, but ebay won't tell you what it is. Now someone is going to smartly say something to the effect well then it's a win win... you leave and we get rid of you... I've seen some of those comments and it's sad, this used to be a community. Sure I put myself at further risk by typing this note, but I dont' intend to be selling if this is the new requirement of being a seller. I'm just sad it has been a great experience, made so many friends, and had fun selling. Now, it's all gone because someone wants more information about me than I need or find reasonable to supply.

·2 years agoEbay has seemingly become a dictatorship. Not sure who's really pulling the strings here, but unless they revert back to the good ol' ways where things were more constitutional I won't be back any time soon. I've been selling for many many years as an honest and hardworking business man, and they want to slap this on us. Bring the old Ebay back please, otherwise see you later and hello Bonanza!

·2 years agoIt is cob webs so far for me too, but I haven't really optimized the google advertising that comes with their platform yet so can't really for sure yet for myself. Bonanza is nice because they let you integrate your listings from Ebay to their platform easily, but I am looking into Etsy and other alternatives as well.

eBay is required to periodically verify us. It doesn't matter that the government already has your information. eBay is required to verify who is selling here.
Quit coming up with reasons you don't like it or quit selling here.

·2 years agoIt's not that I don't like it.. I fear it. It gets imposed sometimes AFTER you make sales and then if you ship you loose your money or comply. I won't be selling because I can't take that kind of risk. So that is the fact... not liking has nothing to do with it. I'm too old to matter so rejoice in your ultimatum FAB-Finds4U

·2 years agoBasically we fear two things... Putting a photo ID attached to all your personal info into someone's server that will eventually get hacked and now the hackers have all your pertinent info.. We just went through having our insurance company hacked and took over a year to get our lives put back together. IT IS A NIGHTMARE..... what I fear from eBay is they let you sell item and buyers pay for items and then they send you a notice that you can't get your payments until you supply them with the Photo ID. That isn't right nor fair to us or the buyers... We just went through this and had to refund our customers after they paid and cancel the sales because we are not going to be thrown into the hack machine again. We're too old to live through that again. So those are my fears... I hope you understand I'm not condemning anyone, just saying the reality is we can't sell as long as this situation exists. If that's forever then, that's forever.

·2 years ago100% requirement across the globe for banking - you want to do business, that government wants their taxable fair share of it & the banking system is used to verify exactly whom you are in order to tax you. You have no say in the process except to either enter & follow the rules or exit/stay out of it.

·2 years agoI have a lot of problems with what you are saying... the government is one thing... the banking system is another. Government can already check any ID that they created against any bank account in the U.S. and yes they want it for taxing purposes but they can already get it without any further information that is already available to them. The Banking system couldn't match your ID to anything because there is no world data base system yet... probably on the way. I have no reason why they need a photo when they operate on numbers that can be checked and cross checked. I personally think it's an information grab by the Chinese . They control everything else on eBay so it wouldn't surprise me.. At any rate I don't see where my security interests benefit one iota by being in someone's computer. You tell me how a picture is gonna varify anything. My bank doesn't have a picture of me and I'm a stock holder.

·2 years agoYou are left with no choice if you want to sell online.
Your bank account and name must match 100% also to get paid.
You will need a SS # or Tax ID number too.
The US government wants to tax your income.
The payment processer wants to verify who you are.
I didnt read everything because it was just a block of text.

·2 years agoI have no trouble in what you are saying, but the government can already match my photo ID to all of my information. So why does eBay need it? And when I say government I mean U.S. Government... I'm beginning to wonder if it's not some other government wanting the picture ID and info. and yes after 25 plus years on Ebay without any kind of a problem we're leaving for good.. really makes me sad.

Why when you buy a car or house or get a job, do they need it? They are not the government either.
They need to verify who you are?
They report for taxes to the US government.

OP2 years agoADD to my note.... I been doing some digging into the sales I had to cancel on another account so that i didn't have money tied up in the eBay ID for ransom situation. I wonder if the trigger mechanism was a sale from one of those 3rd party shipping buyers. Fishisfast bought something and i was immediately hung out to dry with you either supply photo ID or we'll not issue payouts. So what this eBays effective way of making me cancel my sales??? The other sale was to some sweet lady in Delaware that I talked to on the phone in explaining to her why I refunded her money. So is the trigger "THIRD PARTY BUYERS" and if so can you ebay tell you who the are so we can block them?
