Ebay gift card gone
I've recently purchased 2 online Ebay gift cards from 1. Doordash and 2. Target in the total amount of $570 due to a transaction, I was trying to do on my debit card declining, after trying to use the ebay gift cards multiple times on the items with it declining and giving me the message: "please check your payment details or try a different payment method" even when my gift card covered the whole balance. After a few more times of calling eBay and them saying nothing was wrong and to try it again the payment was declined and The gift card eventually disappeared as a payment method, and when I try to re-enter the gift card in the same account. It says the balance is zero. with no order being made, does anybody have any tips?

From the AARP website
In some cases, criminals drain the value of gift cards before they are purchased. They’ll steal cards sitting in unattended store racks, record the numbers and PINs, then repackage and replace the cards. When someone buys and activates a card, they swiftly drain the value. A 2024 AARP survey found that more than a quarter of consumers have given or received a gift card with zero value.

OP8 months agoIm not sure if thats the case as i had already claimed the cards to my account and as far as ive seen you can only add it on one account and cant use it as like a debit card so to speak... not sure though

·8 months ago@panhiks - you're right - once it's linked to your account, it can't be used on any other account.
There have been known problems with the balances disappearing during checkout for technical reasons, not scam reasons.
That's why you need to contact the Gift Card team to look at your account from their end.

The disappearing balances is a recurring problem.
You will need to contact eBay CS/Gift Card team to help with this, they can look at your account from their end and see what happened to the balance, possibly restore it.
Open this Help page on Gift cards
-At the bottom Click on "Contact us"
-In the Help Chatbox that opens, to bypass the bots, type AGENT then press the Send arrow
-Keep typing "AGENT" to any bot questions.
-In the box [Yes/Something else] click on "Yes"
-You should then see the options to Chat live with an agent, or have them call you, depending on agent availability.
Note: The Call Back option doesn't always work if your carrier blocks spam/telemarketing calls.
With the live Chat option eBay will automatically email you a transcript.
