eBay asking me to verify my bank information again?
This is getting beyond frustrating.
I’ve been an eBay seller since 2005, so twenty years, and while I don’t sell huge volumes, nothing about my bank account has changed yet here we are again.
I already went through this fiasco back in December 2024 or January 2025. Last Wednesday I sold a laptop for around £350, and once again eBay are holding onto the funds until my bank account is “verified.â€
Apparently there’s an “issue†with my bank account, even though I just bought a £150 shelf and the money left my current account instantly without a hitch.
On Saturday I tried verifying/linking bay through my mobile banking app, which failed, so now I’m stuck waiting for the micro-transaction method to go through.
Why does this keep happening? The only conclusion I can draw is that eBay are deliberately holding onto people’s money for as long as possible to earn interest on it, especially with their recent business model changes.
A couple of months ago I sold an item, everything was delivered, feedback was positive, yet they still sat on my funds for two full weeks. Even after calling multiple times and mentioning trading standards, they refused to release the money before 14 days.
At this point the whole process has become a complete joke to be honest.
In my opinion if you verify your account with an ID or whatever, to me as soon as you ship the item and it detects it first scan in the transit system your money should be available from that point. No waiting or messing around for 2 weeks to a month. Its stupid.

·11 months agoBanking regulations change frequently - not just annually, but quarterly in each nation. I would suspect to be compliant with those changes, you will need to reverify. It is not new, sudden or outrageous. Has been on going for 25 years.
In terms of the funding holds, being an infrequent seller is the primary reason. They form patterns based upon ur selling behavior. If you are selling an item for the "first" time or infrequently selling in general anything, for value that legally rises above petty/misdemeanor & it happens to fall into categories of suspect "hot" or "looted" merchandise as reported by retailers, expect to be flagged & restricted. If you happen to sell it frequently, they will freeze your account & require you to prove its legitimate stock purchased etc.
Electronics have been at the very top of the suspect goods list for over 40 years.
