Ebay are so incompetent when it comes to sorting out my shiping payment problem

about 6-8 months ago (mid 2023) I would have my funds sent to my bank and pay for my shipping by creditcard. This was great because it helped with my cash flow. BUT. Then ebay only seems to allow shipping to be paid out of available funds or direct from my bank. I have called ebay many many times and no one knows why the creditcard payment method for shipping is not working. They are all under the impression that I simply need to add it to my payment options and tada... but no, it doesn't work. I have many promises of sorting the problem out but not one has come good or even got back to me.

Now, if EBAY no longer allow cerditcards for shipping, I am fine, annoying but I get it. But to just pretend it does work when it doesn't is incompetent of them.

I have spoke with people on the phone, then to 'specialists', but no one can give a straight answer!!!

After several years ( long ago) I really tired of all the tech glitches and various issues w/ purchasing labels form eBay.  Do yourself a favor and take a look at pirateship.  They have all the same discounts as eBay ( just no fed ex, only USPS  & UPS) .  There is even a special export rate for international shipping.  There is easy integration from eBay ( and many other platforms).  Customer service ( real US based live people)  always ready to help for 18 hrs per day.  You can pay with a credit card. You can always re print your labels ./ SCAN sheets.   I use a cc where I receive 3% cash back on every purchase.  I've been using them for 6 years and ship approx. 50 - 60  packages per day from various platforms.  They even help with carrier adjustments.

The process has not changed in years @Anonymous . These are the options for paying for shipping labels:

    1. eBay funds

    2. PayPal where you can set a default payment method like a credit card or bank

    3. Drain your eBay funds before buying labels by requesting a payout. Then labels will be charged to your backup funding source which can be a bank or credit card.

As mentioned above, if buying UPS or FedEx labels the only option is to pay with eBay funds or your backup source when no eBay funds are available. You cannot use PayPal for UPS/FedEx labels.

You are a very low volume seller with a 5 business day handling time. My assumption is you traditionally received payouts before it was time to ship which meant your backup funding source was charged since eBay funds were drained. That's just a guess as I have no idea what your payment hold status is, if any, as an infrequent seller.

Whether my guess is correct or not doesn't matter. The first half of this post explains shipping label payment options you have to work with when buying labels through eBay. If this method creates problems for you, of course you have the option of buying labels from a third party like pirateship.com where you can charge labels directly to your credit card.

@Anonymous Do you only use FedEx or UPS? Does this problem occur if you use USPS? The help pages state/doesn't show any option except pending funds or on file payment method:

Depending on which carrier you choose, the cost of the label can be paid for from your available funds, or from your on-file payment method.

    • FedEx and UPS shipping label charges will be paid with your funds, or from your on-file payment method if your funds are insufficient
    • USPS shipping labels can be paid for with your funds, on-file payment method or PayPal account. You’ll see the option to select your payment method when printing a label

Other than that I don't know as I only use USPS and use the debit card connected to my bank account as alternate method of payment.

If all else fails, you can do as suggested and utilize a paypal account with that card as primary funding....

I set one up strictly for ebay shipping....

(you just need an extra email account that is not already in use with paypal)

then use THAT paypal account on your shipping label page as the option

edit: also, somewhere in paypal i recall seeing a page that was strictly for ebay payments...i don't recall exactly when in the signup process, but it asked what funding source (bank/card) did I want as to satisfy my ebay payments...I had never seen that before at paypal

OK, I have been through this about 5 times now, on the phone, with ebay.

It doesn't work, the card can not be used to pay for shipping. Maybe it's pecular to me but ebay always escalate to a 'specialist' who then can not solve it, they open up a ticket and it goes no where.

I don't sell millions but I do sell 10's of thousands of $ and this can not be solved and the incompetents is that the 'ticket' goes nowhere.

We've tried selecting the prefered method - no go

We've tried deleting a card and adding it again, - no go

They have said a couple of times that it's the card company, Capitol One, I have called them and they say no, not them.

Ebay always leave it that they will come back to me in a few days but NEVER do. NEVER.....

No, credit cards can not be used to pay for shipping labels unless it goes through Pay Pal.

I get this option to add a payment method

    IMG_3484.jpeg

not PayPal. If I select the creditcard method it fails to work, only allowing the bank method

That option is to cover any refunds or fee's not covered by your avaliable funds, not to pay for shipping.

Try editing the card...and on the 2nd screen, there is a toggle that "might" make this your primary payment method

I am not sure, but I recall seeing that when I added a new card...

My screen actually has the option to "Manage" in addition to edit/change

When you buy a shipping label, you only have 2 options, Pending Funds or Pay Pal.

If you want to pay for them using a credit card, attach it to your Pay Pal account and set it as the default funding source, then choose Pay Pal as your payment option when you buy the label.

Next time you buy a shipping label, before you buy it, scroll down the page on the left side and you'll see the payment options for shipping labels.

"... I did have a cc as a payment method for shipping and that worked for a long time then suddenly didn't work."

    @Anonymous

So, you have gone to PayPal and verified that the CC you'd like to use to pay for eBay labels IS marked as your 'Preferred method of payment while shopping online' in your PayPal wallet?

I've read of your issue lately. If I recall, one poster had to go into PayPal and delete the card, then add it back, again marking it as the 'Preferred' method. Seems like that took care of the problem. You might try that. Good luck.

    Thank you for your reply.

No it was not through paypal at all.

I have not used paypal for a few years now, since ebay didn't require it.

I had a cc as a method for paying for refunds and shipping.

But now and for about 6 months it hasn't worked and ebay defaulted to taking it from my bank.

Ebay customer service are clueless regarding fixing it and as I said, I get promises and tickets but nothing happens, no responses even...
