I’m not a big seller I always sell something here and there could be months until I sell something .. the problem is recently I sold a laptop for about 1,400$ and after I shipped it I realized eBay is holding the funds for 31 days .. I was in shock and still can’t believe it .. 31 days is enough for the customer to destroy an electronic device.. my feedback is 66 100% .. what the point of feedbacks? Isn’t feedback supposed to TALK FOR YOU?.. I think 31 days is excessive.. is not even the most expensive stuff I sold before ..

·4 months agoYour feedback is irrelevant to anything on Ebay. It is not used to make any decisions about whether you can be trusted.
One sale every two months does not provide enough data to determine whether you can be trusted, particularly when they are big ticket sales.
Holds are appropriate and common on most internet marketplaces and with most payment services. Standards of trust will vary.
Ebay is no longer a place where you can count on quick cash if you are not a regular seller with predictable sales volume.
Many occasional users of this site never read the policies, and never learn about any revisions of the policies until they find themselves in shock.

·4 months agoEbay participates in risk management. Infrequent sellers selling $1400 items is a risk, no matter how you slice it, @itssomethingforangelinc

·4 months agoSeems like the only person you should be angry at is yourself . The problem and it is not just you is that people don't read rules , entitlement is at an all time high .
When the mistake is self inflicted no one want's to take responsibility anymore . Maybe this is a good lesson going foward always read the rules before doing something in the future

·4 months agoIn a way it is also top protect sellers, especially infrequent ones...imagine you received the money quickly, then spent it, the buyer filed for a return and you are now over drawn without any responsible way to cover the return. Whether you are a buyer or seller it is so important to know how the platform works

·4 months ago@itssomethingforangelinc You are an infrequent seller. eBay holds payments for new and infrequent sellers, and in other situations when there is an anomaly in the seller's selling habitis (e.g. They sold a $1,000 item when normally they sell $20 items.) You ticked at least one, if not two boxes. This is why they are holding your money.
eBay does not make this policy a secret. You can read it here. The fact you did not apparantly know about this policy is not eBay's fault. It is yours.
Your reason for hating the fund holding policy is misguided. eBay has a very buyer friendly Money Back Guaratnee. Are you aware of that? What this means is that a buyer can return almost any item for not as described up to 30 days after delivery. It does not matter whether you accept returns or not. You can refuse to accept a item not as described return, but you cannot refuse to refund the buyer. If you don't refund the buyer, eBay will...with funds in your eBay account or from your bank. This means regardless of when your funds are released, they are not really your funds until that 30-day period has been met. Even then, buyers can still file chargebacks, normally up to about six months after the purchase. That is the reality of retail.
If you aren't going to read and understand policy, then you are probably correct. You need to be done with reselling online on any platform. You will otherwise be in a world of hurt.

OP4 months agoAgain I’m not saying the policy is wrong I’m saying that the time to release the funds is TOO LONG..

·4 months agoSince the buyer has 30 days to start a return, Ebay wants to make sure the funds are there for any refunds.

·4 months agoA buyer has 30 days to open a return so eBay wants to make sure the funds are there if needed for a refund.

OP4 months agoAlso the policy have to be new because I sold expensive stuff before , it has to be 1 years maybe 2.. I’m not a frequent seller but I’m a frequent buyer.. maybe they should take my money out of the bank in 31 days too.

·4 months agoIt's probably not just the fact that you are listing "expensive stuff". It may be because it's been at least 90 days since you've listed something for sale, or it may be that your usual items are not of such a high value.

·4 months agoDoesn't matter whether it started 5 years ago, 5 months ago or 5 weeks ago. It is your responsibility as a seller to stay on top of changes, rather than assume everything is the same. I was away from selling for about 10 years. I knew when I came back I had a lot to learn because it was no longer 2013 when I stopped selling. Policy changes. How things work change. Nobody could have put in the effort to learn what was different other than myself. Same goes for you. If you had done the reserach, you at least would have known and may have sold elsewhere or could have planned better.
Again, 31 days allows enough time for eBay's Money Back Gurantee time period to run out. FYI...I expect in the next year eBay will hold funds for all sellers until at least 2 or 3 days after delivery, as that is becoming standard.

·4 months agoFor items that sell for $1000 or more, they started holding the funds for 30 days a couple years ago.
